tightened sway bar end links.....seriously?

clunking started at 600miles. put the car on a lift to tighten the links myself.
managed to get them tight with a combo of wrenches and extensions. found the top link on the passenger side was only hand tight.

the links are designed horribly and are near impossible to access. the lower link bolt hex key is right up against the control arm and there is no room to get a decent size wrench on the top link bolt although its easier to access the top hex key.

so I'm thinking how would you even get a torque wrench on the nut being that you need the hex key in the stud so it doesn't spin?? i know they make open ended torque wrenches but i don't see how they would fit in that confined space.

someone please tell me what I'm missing here.. id love to know how chevy workers at the factory or the dealership get the right torque values on them

Welcome to the club...most get them fixed at the dealer. I did them myself along with my mechanic like you did and didn't remove the tires. Used a crow foot to access with the torque wrench if I recall.

I'm not completely certain that correctly torquing them will hold permanently myself...so far so good, but I do not get to spend much time in my car as I would like.

I just had my end links fixed this morning. Unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to see how they did the work. Clunk started at 400 miles on my 18 ZL1. Let’s hope the fix works! The put on a different nut.

initially they were just re-tightening the nuts. then a few guys said that their dealer was going to order new links. now maybe they are just changing to a new nut and adding loctite on the threads.

Correct. The bulletin was updated 9-15-17 to include replacing the nuts instead of just re-torquing them. It’s a new part number I believe.

Worth getting it done!

did your dealer have to order these nuts or did they have them there?

I hope that isn’t the case. Says on my paper work they torqued to bulletin specs.

dare to dream...it is a difficult thing to torque considering you must hold the central stud with an allen wrench.

no, a stabilizer bar doesn’t affect the alignment
