It might be smaller by mere inches. The ATS wheel base is like 3 - 5 inches shorter. We're not going to 370Z size. So unless the 6th gen interior ends up being a lot tighter due to the reduced wheelbase, I don't see the reason to be upset.
Due to the new platform, and trimmed size we could see a weight loss of a couple hundred pounds. How about we just be excited about that? I definitely wouldn't want a larger Camaro. These things are already huge compared to the past gens.

Smaller? They should be focusing on making it lighter!

If it's coming from USA Today, it's more like USA Yesterday's AP News Feed. None of this is "News" unless you haven't kept in the loop as various rumors have played out. Camaro is going to the ATS platform, 4-cyl a possibility. Wheeeeeee--history repeats itself.
5 years ago people were bitching that the Camaro was a pig compared to the 4th Gen-- too big, too heavy, should have kept the solid axle, etc. Now it's going to be too small again, and GM's going to have to pry their oversized, overweight 5th Gen Camaro barges out of their cold, dead hands... |

If they plan on selling it late 2015...then they have to reveal sometime at the beginning of 2015..

GM needs to understand that the average height for adult males is 6' and taller and slowly growing. These tiny car interiors like the Vette, Viper and I guess the new Camaro are not going to fly. It'll bite them in the ass.

2015 will be the last of the "heavy chevy"? Will the final product be that much lighter or is just to have a more flexible platform to build cars on?

I still think it will be the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. GM has not confirmed officially to the media but I'm sure they know exactly where the release will be and I would be surprised if it were anywhere else. IMO the only way is won't be NAIAS is if GM has secret plans for releasing something even bigger then the Camaro and don't want to share the stage.

I don't understand people.
Everyone complains the Gen 5 Camaro is too big and heavy for what it needs to be. Look at the Gen 5 vs a Gen 1. The Gen 5 DWARFS it. These cars are too big, period. They have trouble getting out of their own way. The ATS platform is BARELY smaller, people. Side by side, you won't even notice the difference without breaking out a tape measure. The Gen 6 is going to walk the Gen 5 in the quarter mile AND around a track because it'll be practically the same design, but lighter. That means faster ET's and better handling. The Gen 5 is an IRS track car guys. It isn't a solid rear axle quarter mile king. I don't know what some of you want. No matter what the answer is, it's the wrong answer. Relax. What matters here is the aesthetics. I'm not worried at all with GM's handling of the performance. I KNOW the Gen 6 is going to outperform the Gen 5 in every way. I'm worried about them screwing up the looks. By the way they botched the 2014's and 2015's so badly, I'm afraid they'll move more in that Euro-direction and further soften the car's looks. Move the car to a more aggressive look like the 2010-2013 cars and shed some size and weight and we'll be in great shape. Hopefully the wheels shrink to 19's too. That'll really up the performance and seriously cut some cost off of wheels and tires.

GM has been unveiling models super early with their recent products....up to 9 or 10 months early in the Colorado/Canyon's case before becoming available. I'm worried if we don't see a January 2015 reveal and they hold off until much later, that we won't get the car on lots until late 2015 (which sucks b/c of the time of the year) or spring 2016 which would mean we will see a halt in Camaro production between the 15 and 16 model.

considering how far along they appear to be in development, i find it difficult to believe it won't be unveiled in Detroit.

Just think, the Gen 5 Camaro came from a 4-door sedan platform, the G8, and look how GM fine tuned it. I love my pig!!!
