Manual vs Auto

So I am still in the market for a ZL1 and the orginal one I was looking at has sold. I have found another that I have fallen in love with and I am going this weekend to test drive and talk numbers on. Only things that scares me is that its a Auto. From what I have seen it is the sequential transmission which i do like, but after coming from the Evo world and our MRs with SST trannies, the mantience is crazy expensive. Also that and in the future, changing clutches can be a 3k+ dollar job. Is this the same for the ZL1's? Any pros or cons for the Auto vs the Manual?

I am 45 and owned nothing but sport cars with a stick my whole life.I am now having knee problems so i just sold my stick vette and bought my first auto sport car a 2012 zl1. I must say this car is amazing and one contributing factor to me is the auto tranny i love it. My car does have a tune wich tweaked the tranny and 600rwp. You can hear 100s of pros or cons but it comes down to what you feel comfortable with.

ZL1 has a traditional automatic transmission with a torque converter. Maintenance is no issue at all. It shifts fast and hard and the auto is faster than the manual. Also has paddle shifters incase you want to pick the gear yourself.

When you test drive it, stick it in M and get on it. You will like it!

I had a auto SRT8 Challenger I traded for the ZL 1 6 speed, Great car but it bored the hell out of me. I'm 60yrs old had a lot of cars, There's nothing like a manual trans in a muscle car!! Like Jay Leno Say's a proper trans is a manual one..

I think that the whole manual vs stick thing is all personal preference. A stick to me is much more engaging than a auto but when driving in heavy traffic or bad weather the auto is the way to go.

I think we have done this a dozen times. Try them both and decide for yourself.

I think im more worried about the Auto's ability to handle power and mantince costs.

There is no added costs or loss of reliability with the Auto. It's a simple and proven transmission and torque converter setup. The car is built for abuse and built strong.

Both are good transmissions.
auto is actually a little faster.
The decision is purely personal preference.

It's a personal preference like color or any other option.

Factually, the auto is quicker and nobody can outshift a well built auto like the 6L90 that is in the ZL1.

But many like the engagement with the car that a great manual trans brings.

Up to you - drive both and decide. There is no bad choice either way.
