In my humble opinion it comes down to "fun to drive", and in that sense there really is no contest. Manuals are so much more fun and with a car like this I really love the visceral feel of driving while rowing the gears. To each his own, but for me it was never going to be anything but a manual.

If you want quick, automatic.
If you want "perceived" fun (and some bragging rights), manual.
If you want major bragging rights, automatic with a turbo behind it.

I bought the fastest american-made production car in 1987 - Buick Grand National - and it was automatic only. Even today, it will mop up my M6 Camaro SS with that wimpy little six cylinder engine. And it's automatic.

Ask any Buick GN enthusiast what the preferred transmission is, and you'll get some schooling there.

I drive a manual ZL1 and love it.

But the simple truth is autos are becoming the wave of the future. Most high end supercars are almost all autos.

With the technology and quick shifting patterns of today the human reaction cannot keep up with computers.

But in my view the faster .2 secs you gain from modern autos is still not worth the extra enjoyment from rowing your own gears.

I get bored easily with auto's; I also hate being in downtown traffic shifting but skip shift works wonders

I test drove an auto ZL1 and hated it. It felt slow and heavy in comparison. Love the Dual Clutch. It grabs hard like my 95 but is a bit smoother when shifting.

It felt slow and heavy, but it won't look slow and heavy when it passes you.

I said it for a reaction.. Lol

But in all honesty I love my manual. If I was going to the track I would have an automatic. But as my daily driver my manual is great.

Here with there being a decent amount of traffic at times the auto has proven to be nice, though going to a car meet last night, a manual would have been nice. Feels weird to have to go to N to give a little rev to the groupies.

It's almost the opposite. Manual for the track and auto for everyday driving...

Originally I bought my ZL1 as my daily driver and decided that I didn't want a manual, especially if I was going to be driving in Houston a lot (at the time I was). Well fast forward and now my ZL1 is my track toy and I've got a second vehicle for my daily driver. By track toy I mean road course track and not 1/4 mile. I thought for sure I was going to hate / have issues with the auto on a road course, and if you let the computer shift for you, you certainly do have issues. However the paddles work fantastic, and even though this isn't a dual clutch trans, it still handles the road course amazingly well. If I had to do it again and knew it wouldn't be my daily and that I would be addicted to tracking (road course / HPDE) my car, then yeah I probably would have gotten the manual.
