V8 > V4 = SQUEAK!

Ok. So I've been hearing a squeak sound coming from the engine when taking my foot off the gas pedal. So I had a feeling it may have something to do with AFM. So I put the display on the page where it tells you what mode it is in, V8 or V4. The high pitched squeak sound happens when the engine is going from V8 down to V4 mode. I plan on taking this in for an oil change anyway and I'm obviously going to mention this.

Any idea what this can be?

My 16 did the same just before the one of the Afm lifters failed. Causing complete motor failure. New motors been in for about 1600 miles and it’s making more crazy sounds then my original motor did.

It may be the afm valve in the exhaust.

My exhaust does not have NPP, if that is what you are referring to.

Sounds great. GM's quality on these cars are an embarrassment. This is the last straw for me, I will be getting rid of this vehicle by the weekend. It lives more at the dealer for fixes than I do driving it. Now I know why I hardly see any Gen6 Camaros on the road.

No AFM stands for active fuel management. There are valves in the exhaust that open and close when switching from v8 and v4 mode. They increase backpressure when in v4 mode. These are known to squeak.

AFM is equipped with A8 cars that have either NPP or Non NPP exhaust.

My 17 2SS did the same thing, but after a 5000 mile road trip, the squeak took care of itself. Still there, but very faint..

My 2016 SS has more of what I describe as a wind/air “puff” sound every time it goes from V4-V8 real noticeable on slow inclines and stepping on throttle lightly. Of course dealer said normal noise - i asked them that’s it’s normal for people in other cars next to me to hear this too and look at my car as if it’s backfiring?!
Anyone else have this? It’s the V8 2SS A8 doesn’t have quad exhaust

I got my issue resolved with the same exact issues. Squeak when I coast and go to accelerate. squeak when upshifting around 1st to 3rd gear and downshifting as well. They replaced my whole exhaust system after 3 months of this issue and I haven't had it since.

I had my 16 2ss in yesterday for the squeak. I took the TSB about spraying the lube in the flappers in the exhaust. But the service advisor said we skipped that and went ahead and ordered you a new exhaust. Sounded good to me. Hopefully no more issue with this when it comes in.

Do you have the TSB #? I dropped my car off today because of the same issue and the service guy seemed like he was going to give me the run around. He said he’d have to check the bulletin and then see what/if GM will allow him to do to fix it.

The Chevy dealer near me said they are going to replace my exhaust. Idk if that’s the only remedy, but I’ll take it. Thank the Lord!
