Apple CarPlay Updates (iOS 10.3)

Thought I'd share this with an audience that uses Apple CarPlay. The new updates include:

- Shortcuts in the status bar for easy access to last used apps
- Apple Music Now Playing screen gives access to Up Next and the currently playing song’s album
- Daily curated playlists and new music categories in Apple Music

Also, there's this:

- Support for searching “parked car" in Maps
- Siri support for checking car fuel level, lock status, turning on lights and activating horn with automaker apps

Curious to see if this works with the MyChevrolet app. I'll have to test it out and let you guys know!

Still cant use google maps
Still cant open my messages without the car stopping everything and reading my messages out loud to the entire car
Still cant scroll through my music
Still cant deactivate phone mirroring where it will, not matter what, show what's on your phone screen

Still wont use it. Why cant apple fix these damn features.

Just to help with understanding, CarPlay and Android Auto both function on the same principle....your myLink display just acts an external display/input device for the phone. The phone is doing all the work. Only thing GM had to do with comply with Apple/Google's standards for the interface. The major selling point of this technology is that your car's infotainment system will not need to be updated to take advantage of new features for either phone system.

As much as I like Apple stuff, I feel like they really dropped the ball with CarPlay. People today are way too distracted by their phones while driving, and as a consequence, Apple actually overshot their attempt to simplify the CarPlay UI. Black background, very limited apps (including 3rd party options), and crappy music controls. You don't have to go *that* austere with the design. Android Auto looks much better, plus the obvious benefit of Google maps.

Also, Siri sucks hard. I find the speech to text recognition is great, but the backend services have no idea how to interpret my inputs. All it's useful for is setting alarms -- it'll fail miserably at any request more complex than that.

Man, I love apple car play. I had it on my accord as well.
its not perfect but it helps out a lot. I have learned if you speak clear to Siri she understands about 95% of everything.
The maps work really while since no nav on my 1LE

Sounds like some solid improvements, but as always, could do even better.

I love using it for apple maps (I'm indifferent when it comes to apple maps vs google) and spotify, but find Siri waaaaay too clunky for messaging. I just wait til I'm at a stop and read the messages on my phone, defying the point of being able to plug in phone and leave it alone

BTW, if you haven't had Siri try to read a link to a web page and want a good laugh, have someone message you and try it out

Those issues he posted are limitations of CarPlay...not anything that can be fixed.

Am I the only one that disabled CarPlay when I first got the car? I can't stand the UI and the functionality.
