From the video, sounds like Chevy was quick to unveil it (unlike a different ::cough:: 6 ::cough:: unveiling) so they grabbed the next finished engine off the line and slapped it in.

Thanks for sharing. I started my career with GM Fisher Body 37 years ago. I currently work as a Launch Manager at a GM Stamping Plant. Even though I drive a gen5, I will always remember the original F bodies fondly.

Doesn't the article say its a straight six? I bought a '67 that color with a straight six and 3 speed manual in 1975 at Iraklion AS Crete, Greece. I agreed to pay $350 for it complete with busted water pump. The guy kept driving it and it got so bad the fan actually hit the radiator. I put $50 down and was going to pay the guy $100 a month, but he got reassigned to Japan before I finished paying and he said were good at $250. I was going to bring it back to the states, but it got hit and totaled by the base shuttle bus in the parking lot of transportation office while I was getting the shipping documents processed.

I friend sent this to me a few days ago. Interesting story.
And yes, straight 6.

Website for car with full story...
http://pilotcarregistry.com/n100001.html The first car(s) down a new line are basic, base, stripped models. As they gain experience with installing/fitting those together on the moving line they begin to introduce the various options. |
