Who has an AGM w/black rims?
Good morning,
Do you have black rims on your AGM? Could you post some pics. I was just trying to get an idea of the look. Thanks in advance! |

Went with a gunmetal gray metallizer, looks really nice in the sun. Old pics but looks better with tinted windows ^.

First off make sure the wheels are "like new" clean. Including the lug nuts and lug nut holes and wheel barrels (if you can). Then you need to use the dip prep (comes in the kit also) to wipe the wheels down on the pained parts. Let this dry. The wheels need to be bone dry to do this and get the dip to stick right. Mask off your rotors and calipers with kitchen trash bags and painters tape. There is a great video on YouTube by Dip Your Car. Yellow Audi with black wheels. Same set up as what I did. Watch that at least twice all the way through to get an idea on the steps. I did mine on the car like in the video. The first coat is a thin coat that is not fully black, but more of a tack coat for the others to stick to. The wheel will not look fully black. Spray the wheel from around 4-6 inches away and keep that distance consistent coat to coat and wheel to wheel. This will ensure smooth coats that do not run. The key is lots of thin coats vs. a few heavy ones. On each pass of the wheel, do one pass around the wheel where the tire and wheel edge meet. This is important. This will allow you to peel the oversprayed dip from the tires in one smooth action just like in the video (remember to watch it at least twice). 15 minutes between each coat (I set a timer) is key along with at least 5 coats of matte black and 3 of graphite metalizer. If you want a gloss coat over it, you will also need glossifier. I sprayed the first wheel, started the timer and moved on to wheel 2, 3, 4 etc. By the time you get through with wheel 4 you will have around 5-10 minutes to sit. Have a cold beverage and wait. Then start over with each coat. When you are all done, wait at least 30 full minutes for the whole set up to cure. Then gently remove the bags from the rotor/calipers. Do this slowly and steady feeding the bag back through one spoke of the wheel. Feed it carefully and be sure not to drag across the back edges of the newly dipped wheels. This can cause the dip to lift. I parked mine in the sun to cure another hour just to be safe before I drove anywhere. Done. Hope that helps some. -DWH's dipping guide to get that look. LOL |
