I get about 14mpg city, and that's when I'm not having too much fun.
Of course, my daily commute was all of 5 miles up the hills in the morning, and 3 over one hill in the afternoon. There wasn't enough time for the engine to warm up or find a nice place to just coast along. I hope that it'll get a little better once I start commuting to college. I loved my high school, but the drive was killer on the wallet... Although, when I went to San Diego for the day with some friends, I managed to pull 25.333mpg combined, and there was a little bit of traffic, but it was mostly in excess of 65mph, so I can only assume my highway mpg was close to 26, maybe 27.

Correct, LT1. Not at all. LS1's were fortunate enough to come with proper air intake systems. LT1's came with...garden hoses for intakes. Let an LT1 breath in and out..you would be surprised at what is possible. Optispark sucks though. Quote:
More reliable, better tuning options, etc...yes.

2002 A4 here. I get around 16-20 city, and that's with me stepping on it with a little over 100k on the odometer. Once on the way to Yosemite I got 31

I got 16 in the city and 30 on the highway with my 2002 T/A. That was with a fairly large cam (233/233) and supporting mods.

I averaged 28.5 mpg doing 85. Typical mileage for me is 20-23 mixed, depending on how fast I "need" to get on the highway or out into traffic. The window sticker that was for my car said it was rated at 19 city 26 highway. I have a 6-speed manual.

I get that combined but I do a lot of highway miles. In the city I'd guess about 18 mpg with my A4.

You should be able to! I bought mine 3 years ago with 76k miles for $9,900. They have come down in price a lot. If you wait for a deal, you can pick up a Z28 for around $5k here.

I get 19-20 when I take it to work. I think I got 25 once on a long interstate trip. I have the A4. The 3.23 are not a friendly mpg gears. I had an old LT1 A4, now that had 2.73 gears and got 30+ mpg easy.

I've never seen the top end 26 but I have been pretty consistent between 22-24 and that is with me tearing off the line from stops.

Recently did my car's first* fuel filter service, new Iridium spark plugs and MSD 8.5mm wires and I get 33MPG on the highway. Was blown away by that without sacrificing performance. Throttle response picked up, too. Might be worth doing a fuel filter service if you're feeling the crunch at the pump. (I recall they are due every 15K miles...)
*I'm not the original owner. Picked it up at 145K.

I get around 25 daily driving with a manual. That's with aggressive acceleration from stops for fun. On the interstate cruising at 75 I get like 30. Pretty good for what it is. My 2010 only gets like 19 average.
