I have a 2011 v6 camaro auto. i was wondering if anyone knows whether driving with paddle shifter gives you better or worse gas milage?

Just depends on if you shift earlier in the RPM range. "D" mode is already optimized for that, I think.

What kind of mileage are you guys get on the road (reel life numbers) with the V6 Camaros???
Automatics and preferably the 6-speeds? My previous 1969 and 1982 Camaros were not much of a road trip cars, but this Gen 5 V6 Camaro may make a nice road trip car. The 120 lbs less in weight than the V8, I heard 2012 may shave off even more weight with the composite intake. I've done the hotrod stuff for 40 years, and now with $5.00 gas around the corner I don't want to be a whiner (price too high) to let that stop me from having fun on the open road. So, is 30 mpg a real thing driving at highways speeds????? |

I currently have a 2LT/RS and have driven it to and from Dallas from Austin. Aprox. 200 miles each way. I usually see between 28-31 MPG on the highway.

Too subtle a change. There would be no difference.

I don't think it would give you better, but if you drive like I do with the paddle shifters, you would definitely have worst gas mileage. I think the best gas mileage would be in "D".

On mine v6 auto I get 25.4 but I have allot of city driving reset it once when I drove from portland or to cour d lane idaho and I was getting 32.1 I was quite suprised but when I use the paddle shifters which I did for a tank to see what I got I was down to 19.3 which I did reset it right after I filled up so it can effect the gas milage when you use paddles (dumb mans manual) and I did let her rev higher than when it was in D

Just for reference...V6 6M real world 80% freeway, 72 mph max... the best I have gotten is 25.7 mpg for an entire tank. I would kill for better but the 6M is fun...

Interesting read. On my auto V6, I'm putting out about 26 max on highway driving, which is about 95% of my miles. That is running at 68-70 through somewhat hilly terrain.
I'd be interested to find out how to pull off 32 MPG which is actually better than the 2008 4cyl Honda Accord that I replaced with the Camaro was getting.

On the turn signal lever to the left of the steering wheel, scroll to the menu screen on the DIC that shows your average mpg. Then press and hold the button (set, clear, I think) on the end of the lever until you hear a 'beep' and it will clear it out. The same instructions work for many of the menus.
Hope thats clear!! |

On the few trips to San Diego and back I get 27 at 70-75 with town and traffic thrown in, and yes use D not the paddles. Paddles really just for fun as S mode no paddles is faster for the drag strip I hear.
