It mentions GM giving an excuse that the car had mixed grade (93 and 91) that confused the fuel tables (which I agree sounds like BS). It also had brake pads were apparently shot which sounds like someone had already been tracking this car. Another screw up on GM's part like the alignment issues back in the MT head2head with the GT-R. So in summary a ZO6 with 8 degrees of spark retard and worn out brakes still manages a 1:38 at LS and the replacement car did not arrive in time for another lap.

Here's the first section of the article: "It didn't work. The damn Z06 retarded spark by 8 degrees, and the 1.7-liter TVS supercharger refused to make boost. No one knows why. Chevrolet came up with a "bad gas" theory, but Big Nasty got filled at the same Chevron stations as everyone else and even swallowed 8 gallons of 101 octane in an attempt to get the supercharger to wake up. No luck. What we have here is a failure to compete. What a pity." |

From what I can see the late Camaros (1LE, ZL1 & z28) & C6 Corvettes (including Z06 & ZR1) are more dependable. |

It makes me wonder how different these cars are compared to the original design that obviously saw a tremendous amount of testing before production. I know cost cutting used to happen during year two according to people in the know, but I wonder if it's happening right away now and if all the testing we hear about is just marketing.
We've all seen the videos and pictures of GM working these camouflaged test mules and preproduction cars around race tracks, they want us to see this, and we get excited. From a performance aspect GM knows only a small % will actually be driven hard so I wouldn't be surprised if there was major cost cutting happening during the manufacturing process and parts costs. I hope this does hurt vette sales so GM doesn't take us for granted, not all of us are willing to buy a car that's going to be spending time in the service department. |

I brought up the 8speed here before and I couldn't believe there are people here who could defend it. It's been having problems in every single type of vehicle they put it in.

GM seems to be having QC problems across the board. 8spd trans issues, Z06 durability and cooling issues, LT durability issues, vibration issues with the Silverado/Tahoe/Suburban, etc, ineffective ventilated seats according to many, and on and on. Read the truck and Corvette boards and it's clear that there are too many unhappy customers.
Good luck to the early adopters of the new Camaro, but I'll be waiting at least a year. GM clearly has some systemic quality issues. |

I'm happy to take my chances on this N/a LT1, with extra cooling pretty much everywhere. This engine has been around the block a few times now in performance vehicles, and also in very similar applications in trucks and SUVs. You can't tell me GM hasn't learned something during that time and hasn't been improving this engine in some way over the last few years. If not, I'd be shocked.

Corvette show
I was just at a national corvette show this august and the talk amongst owners are they are not happy with the LT1, Most want there LS motors back. The feeling is Chevy stayed with the LS motor so long it was rock solid but when the emissions cert ran out, they hastily put the LT 1 as replacement and did not do enough development time. True or not once the fan base begins to doubt, you have problems. And articles like the MT one is not going to help.
