Most recently the Z06 had major engine related issues during Motor Trend's Best Driver's car comparison. A 2014 Stingray blew an engine during Car and Driver's lightning lap. And C&Ds long term 2014 Stingray blew an engine.

What's going on here?!?

I'm a little bit concerned that the LT1/4 are not as reliable/durable as the LS3. I never recall magazines having any engine related issues with the LS3, but seems to be a trend with the LT engines. I'm hoping they get these issues sorted out quickly!

I think one was due to a faulty oil filter, no fault of the engine.

That's why I never buy Fram--they have grenaded plenty of perfectly good engines.

This was addressed months ago. Had to do with metal getting into the filter. They recommended all new stingrays basically do an oil change immediately after taking delivery or 500 miles. (Or something like that)

This is why your have a warranty. It may have been an issue early on, but I haven't heard much about it recently.

If you are concerned, get an extended warranty if you plan on keeping your car a long time.

I'm skeptical that the oil filter was the real assignable cause of the engine failures. That seems like a PR response to downplay the issue and make it seem like it's not a big deal.

The most recent issue of Z06 running poorly during the Best Driver's Car comparison just happened. The article is now on Motor Trend's site.

Hopefully they get everything sorted out ASAP.

they explained that it was an issue with the tapping of the oil filter threads (when they actually cut the threads in to the block) the cleaning process was not as thorough as it should have been, leaving metal flakes in the oil that caused the issue. Sounds totally reasonable from a manufacturing standpoint, if a huge issue from a QC standpoint.

This mentality isn't the best. I submit that a well engineered, well built engine should last 200,000+ miles with proper recommended, scheduled maintenance.

Yes it's unsettling. I was hoping they'd have the kinks worked out by now.

The Z06 story recently is very disappointing and embarrassing. They really need to do something about the LT4.

That's really odd, isn't it? Why would GM send MT a car that Randy concludes is obviously faulty?? Surely GM would have engineers on-site to address these concerns (maybe ask for another run!) since this is a pretty influential magazine...

The article states that GM techs were on site and could not figure out what the problem was. That's really embarrassing!
