1st drain of the oil catch can

Just installed a billet custom oil catch can. Clocked about 2,000 miles and drained it today. Holy crap, much more than I was expecting, probably 2 or 3 oz.

It started when I was faintly smelling oil on the way home from the dealer, first thinking it was someone else's car, then thinking it was a sloppy oil change, and finally researching what the heck it could be. Oil catch can is highly recommended, couldn't imagine burning that amount of oil through the intake. No more oil smell either.

You have 5 years worth of that in your intake already.

Millions, lol. I'd bet at best there is only about a million Camaro's out there in total and that's probably a stretch.

That's not including 2015 calendar year, but given peak sales for a year were, shy of 90 grand, mid to high 500,000 and change, total production for 5th gens by the time 6th gens hit dealerships.

L99 or LS3?

I've checked my LS3 regularly and I never see any oil consumption, and I have not been easy on the car.

Someone here recently said these things catch 'snake oil.' I'm gathering more data before I jump...

If you have a direct injected engine, no fuel passes over the valves, so all that oil goes back thru the intake manifold and in thru the intake valves, creating a whole lot of gunk build up. My RX catch can catches approx. 1 oz of oil gunk per every 1000 miles driven. I have over 75K on my Camaro now. To be that is over a 1/2 gallon of GUNK that is not in my intake manifold or on my valves. Call it "snake oil" if you want, but I for one will never buy a DI engine without having a catch can ready for install the moment I get the car home from the dealer.

All I know is that I just emptied a good amount of "snake oil" from my catch can this morning after about 2000 km. of driving so far this summer.

I have yet to read where anyone claims the oils IS GOOD FOR THE INTAKE. So, what are you out by installing one other than $100-$200? And, you can recoup 50% or more of that when you sell the can during the demod process before trade-in. Just sayin'

Sorry, my mistake.

Just because I'm watching disks spin on a server I'm building this afternoon;
Total production numbers from here.
1st Gen - 699,138
2nd Gen - 1,936,869
3rd Gen - 1,528,561
4th Gen - 609,587

So pre 5th Gen 4,774,155 total Camaros produced.

Now, just a WAG on how many are still around, as googling around produced no hard figures, I'm going to go with a 70% attrition rate, which is probably high. I'm basing that on some UK data from source, and then just picking a decently high percentage.

That leaves 1.4 million, approximately Camaros surviving 20+ years, not including anything 5th gen.

No investment in the conversation that gave rise to the comments about millions of camaros, one way or the other, just a curiosity I scratched because of it, and figured I'd share what I found.

Cleaned a couple ounces of SNAKE OIL out of my SS yesterday and ordered one for the wife's new V6. I agree with cat600man, I will never have a DI engine without one.
