The point simply was that "where there is a will there is a way." I only question... why? Buy an SS. I know, broken record.

Why not just turbo the V6 to get the same power as a V8? All this work to gain 100 hp doesn't seem worth it.

Thank you so much! It's not the power I'm worried about I want sound, and to be able to procharge a v8. When you supercharge or twin turbo a v6 you're done. You only get the same amount as an ss. If I go with a ss then I can get way more supercharged!

Definitely not an easy task. Good luck to you, I hope it turns out the way you intend.

I'll be following. I did something similar about ten years ago. Put a turbo straight six on a Toyota P/U. Took a while but I got eveything to work as it should. I did have the online support of someone who had done it before. It will be fun, nerve racking and expensive. You will learn a lot. GL

If you are doing this for the adventure of it, that's cool. If you are doing it to save money on insurance I don't think it will happen. While insurance on an SS for a 17 y.o. is probably insane, overall I still think you come out cheaper just getting an SS. Title it in your parents name and add yourself as a driver. You are going to ruin the resale value of a perfectly good LT. But again, if you are doing it for the satisfaction of saying you did it then go for it!!

Enjoy the V6 and save yourself some headaches and money. You have a great car as is! At 17 years old and a fairly new drivier, chances are pretty good that you'll wreck it anyway, (which is why insurance rates are so high for you)!

Don't forget the little stuff too. There will be a lot of supporting mods needed, like brakes, suspension, fuel system, computer system, traction modules, sensors, cooling, vacuum system, etc etc. Enjoy the experience. Hoping for the best.

Hell, take that V8 and put it into an older Camaro (2002 ish), a GTO, or a truck or muscle car. Same experience, bump in power and the 2LT won't be a project for the next 3+ years.

wow, only about 1% of the people here were saying go for it. negative nellies
if there aren't car loans to consider I would say go for it. make sure you have a daily driver though, this could be lengthy. hypothetically speaking. if this was a honda forum and you were all like "J series in my 6th gen civic" you would get tutorials and praise from people, not discouragment. thats a good plan too. but, why not move the 3.6 into an older car? then youd have a 1st/2nd gen revving up to 7500 with 350bhp. which would blow lots of old restos off the road AND you would have that new SS. |
