I just might add that cars have brakes for a reason. I might catch some flames for my opinion but it's a bad idea to do a lot of engine braking, especially with an automatic slushbox.

And the Brembos work pretty good.

That would be because you were closer to the power band since you were still rolling.

Same here. I turn the wheel, the paddles vanish and I feel like a goof driving in 1st at 6k rpm.

You can tap shift down to first while in "D", and the car will revert to normal automatic mode within a few seconds.

Additionally, tap shifts may be prevented from executing if the RPMs are not appropriate.

I drive in "M" mode, but rarely use the tap shifts. I have found that if you accelerate somewhat aggressively, but lift off the accelerator abruptly, the car will frequently not "settle" on a gear and upshift but will remain in the lower gear and produce sharp acceleration and torque again immediately... even when coming back into the throttle gently. This can be both disconcerting ... and fun, but be careful!
All of this sounds too complicated I kept it simple and got a M6

No kidding. Leave it to Chevy to over complicate a damn automatic transmission.

Hard on the bearings in the engine as it was explained to me....but as you said, but go practice in any car with any transmission. I think a lot of people mistake the sound of heal toe style down shift / braking rev matching to be engine braking....just my opinion.

You can resolve this by leaving shifter in Drive but use tap shifters. It will go back into drive during your turn and upshift if needed.

Great work PalmerGA-sorry I wasn't in here earlier to assist-but you worked it out and had more Camaro bonding time..

No, the L99 absolutely does downshift to 1st gear with the shifter in D. The ZL1 and the CTS-V with the 6L90E transmissions are the one that do not downshift to 1st with the shifter in D.
Go out and count. You'll get 5 shifts.

And no, the transmission does not have more aggressive shift points with the shifter in M. The shifts are slightly quicker and firmer (like a mild shift kit) but that's it.
You can, however, get the PAS to kick in depending on how you're driving.
