Question Exhaust and Convertible issues

Seeing a lot of exhaust options out there that state they only work on the coupe model, whats the big difference?

They probably get rid of the crimp area of the exhaust which is there to provide room for the extra chassis bracing for the convertible.

If thats the case then what options do we have for axle back on the convertible?

Axle backs are fine. It is the mid-pipes that are the problem.

Well then I am a bit confused, looking on Phasket and the axle backs for most of the exhaust options specifically exclude the convertible for some reason.

As stated, axlebacks alone are not a problem with convertibles. Midway is where you are limited (X pipe etc.) because of the extra chassis bracing that convertibles have to make them more rigid.
I recently installed a Borla ATAK axleback on my '16 SS Convertible with no problems. PN 11923 for $792 with free shipping.

verts have more bracing , IMO spend money on headers if you want any noticable performance increase , exhaust, cat back , axle back exhaust on these high efficiency gen6's really dont do diddily except sound a little better

We just installed the MRT v. 2 Axle Backs on my V6 'vert....nothing but trouble getting the pipes pre-muffler to not hit those cross-braces. It's still knocking somewhere mid-stream by the resonators when the system is cold or if I hit some big bumps (not difficult to do here in mid-Michigan).

Back on the lift it goes...

Update - got it back on the lift today and it's confirmed that the resonator is hitting the cross bars. We tightened up the clamps, winched up the rubber hangers a bit, and we'll see how it goes.

I have had similar situations on 4th gens and I used to use the heat wrap they sell for headers to pad the spot that was hitting. Especially if it is just on big bumps.

I just looked at MRT and they cut in front of the hangers on the V2 on their website. There is a flat spot just rear of the hangers, and then a straight section of round just behind that where most axle-backs are cut. It looks like MRT tried to get rid of the flat pipe too by replacing it and the hanger. They probably also cut out your AFM valves if you have NPP. The problem is, the flat pipe is in there to clear the braces on the convertible.

On my '16 SS convertible I cut the pipes 4 3/8" from the junction of the flat to round part of pipe. These were directions according to Borla.

The cut point for the MRT is all the way to the right, past the flat section. I doubt that can ever be installed on a convertible without some contact. I would seriously look a that header wrap I suggested earlier. Wrap it around the MRT right where it goes over the braces. At least it will keep it from banging.

I just started looking for cat back for my 2017 2SS NPP Convertible. I wanted the Borla Atak, but confirmed from them that there no x-pipe/mid-pipe option for Convertible.

So am I right in understanding that there is no option for mid pipes from any vendor for the convertible?
