Questions on preparing a zl1 for track day

I'm just about at the break in point for my 2017 zl1 and looking to take it to a road course next month. From reading the manuals, it looks like I just need to change the oil and the differential fluid. Curious t know what others put there are using for their fluids and if there's anything else needed to get the car ready for the course?

All I see is replacing the rear diff fluid AFTER the first event. This clip is from the GM website (where I downloaded the owner's manual)

the Diff you can do after the event. I'm not sure on the LT4, but on the LT1 they recommend a dexos 2 oil for the higher load on your motor. I'm sure it's buried in your manual somewhere OR call the service dept. to see if they can help.

Yes. I've changed to Dexos2 as well (there a long thread about this topic). 0W40 /5W40 basically can handle higher oil temp.

If this is your first event the stock brake fluid will be fine but as you progress you'll definitely want to switch to a DOT 4 fluid like Motul RBF 600.

Eric is spot on. Use the factory fill for first event or two until you get up to speed. I ran factory fill for 4 or 5 full events before flushing with RBF6.

Additionally, I get the same amount of HPDE's on rear end. The engine oil I change every 3 events religiously and send it off for analysis. I'm using Xclean 5/40 Dexos 2 for track. I keep it in for DD also as I'm not doing many miles on street and have 1-2 events weekly. In the winter when things cool off, I actually stick with the Dexos 2 in a 5/30 Castrol Edge (SLR) in between events. I only do 2 events a month in most winter months as I hate wet tracks.

The cars are not delicate little princesses.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to read the posts on the dexos, as I'm just not familiar with it yet. Can you get dexos equivalents from local stores or is this a dealership only thing? I used to run Mobil one in my c6z, but looks like i gotta get a different version now.

I find it is simplest to order from Amazon. The Dexos 2 oils are just taking a while to get the licensing. I'm sure we'll find most of the Dexos 1 players putting out new containers soon, i.e. Mobil1, Rotella, etc. I don't, however think we'll see some very good blenders spending the money on the goofy-ass licensing, i.e. Redline, AmsOil, Lucas, etc... I would have no qualms using most of those one warranty is not a factor. You can get the Castrol at Wallymart and Autozone, or at least I can. The Motul I am ordering by the case.

How have the oil analysis been with the Xclean 5/40?

Valvoline SynPower 5W-40 is now Dexos 2 certified and another option, including Motul.

Are we still using the additive to the diff (avoided grinding noises back there for me)? We used to do this in the c5 z06.

If you use GM's spec diff fluid for the eDiff it comes with fluid in it. I would HIGHLY recommend you change your diff fluid before your first event. I and many other 1LE owners had tons of gunk after 1k miles. It's becoming common knowledge in our section to change diff fluid no matter what at 1500 miles.

I've swapped to Motul 5w40 and will be using that oil full-time from now on.

Depending on your driving level, you may want to consider flushing brake fluid as well. I'm currently using SRF.

What about this 'Underbody Air Deflector Tire Dam Kit'? It shows a picture of the rubber mounts on the edge of each front side under the front spoiler, each with 3 screws. Are these rubber pieces supposed to come off for the track driving to help improve the airflow, and then put back on after? I don't have any special kit that says the car comes with in the manual.

Hate to ressurect an old thread, but couldnt find an answer using the search feature (could entirely be operator error). Just got my car this week(ZL1 1LE). Does anyone have a clear answer to post 13? My dealership was less than useless when it came to this.
