Is the 6th Gen Design Official yet?
Was just curious if anything was official, or unofficially official as to the new body design? Is the rendering that was done in Car and Driver, I think it was, the other thread about this, is that accurate? Or has there been any word that that design is in fact going to be what the 6th Gen looks like?

It probably is but we won't know.
And that Car and Driver rendering was a modified Code 130r. The 6th gen better not look anything like that. |

The design is probably either done or being finalized, but it sure as hell isn't going to be what C&D rendered.

The way it was explained to me (by a former GM engineer) new car designs are locked down 36 months before release. So, if that's correct and the new Camaro is to be released mid 2015 then yes, the design is complete.

That's pretty hard for me to believe. I'm sure they may have a very general design vision drafted or even clayed out by then, but no way the nitty gritty details are ironed out that early. Yes I know the 5th gen was released as a concept in 2006...3 years before release, but that's just it. it was a concept car, and everyone screamed BUILD IT AS IT IS! I find this to be a bit different.

Pretty sure the design is locked by now for a new 6th gen model. We won't know the exact car for a while. It will take 2-3 years for them to go thru the crashworthiness/occupant safety studies and make revisions as needed.

GM told the CAW that Camaro production is ending in Oshawa in the Fall of 2015. That's 2 years from now. Common sense would suggest that production of the new model will be up and running in Lansing concurrently with the current model winding down in Oshawa. |

Depends on the plant. Newly remodeled flex plants can changeover to a new model in much shorter time than older plants.

Heck no I'd say. If Al Op can change the Z/28 name to the ZL1 originally last minute is say no. It's 2013, plenty of time for changes to be made to the design.
