Does Camaro own the muscle/pony car market?
Anyone familiar with sales, knows it's all about market share. Sales increase, but are they higher than the competition?
I believe the modern muscle battle began with the arrival of the 2004 GTO. The 2005 Mustang stepped up, then came the 2008 Challenger, followed by the 2010 Camaro. I've gathered the following market share information as trivia, to see how each of these cars have fared in their share of this market segment. The Corvette & Viper aren't included, because I consider them sports cars. I hope you find it interesting too! 2004 Mustang 89% GTO 11% 2005 Mustang 94% GTO 6% 2006 Mustang 92% GTO 8% 2007 Mustang 100% 2008 Mustang 94% Challenger 6% 2009 Mustang 58% Challenger 42% 2010 Mustang 31% Challenger 21% Camaro 48% 2011 Mustang 34% Challenger 13% Camaro 53% 2012 Mustang 40% Challenger 20% Camaro 40% 2013 Mustang 37% Challenger 23% Camaro 40% 2014 Mustang 47% Challenger 19% Camaro 34% 2015 Mustang 44% Challenger 24% Camaro 32% It'll be interesting to see the effects of the new 2016 Camaro.

The Challenger is a new generation yet or no? I know it's been refreshed like the camaro in 2014 but if right now is a new generation then they did good keeping it retro. I remember when I first saw a challenger I thought it was an old car then my friend told no it's a new car made to look like its older self

The new challenger looks great, I just don't know if the are as problem free as the 5th gen camaro has been.

I feel the Challenger hit it out of the park in remaining loyal to the original design... it's absolutely beautiful. I'm certain the Challenger has more quality issues than either the Camaro or Mustang.

The body design being similar to other GM products of the time killed it. Imagine if it would've been somewhat retro.

In terms of driving experience, the 2015 Challenger feels more like a 1970 Charger, rather than a 1970 Challenger, whereas the 2015 Camaro feels like a 1969 Camaro. It's not to say one is better than the other, it's simply different & depends on what one seeks.

2010-2011 or so iirc. It was a pile of garbage, she traded it within 6 months or so. Electrical problems no dealership could ever solve, can't recall all of the issues, but this has been a couple years ago now. |

It's these aspects combined, that I believe make the Challenger more muscle car & the Camaro more pony car.

The new Challenger owns the muscle car market. The '04+ GTO was great in concept, but it was terrible in execution. The new Challenger is great in both. The GTO was basically a Holden Monaro with a few styling tweaks to evoke the past styling traditions of the GTO's from the past. Unfortunately, the ultra bland "not ready for the U.S. market" styling did not do it any favors. And of course, GM's boneheaded move to get rid of Pontiac, when they should have gotten rid of Buick instead, put the nails in the coffin.
Imagine what a Pontiac Firebird version of the 5th gen would be like? The Camaro is technically a pony car like the Mustang, not a muscle car. |

I'd forgotten, but 2015 sales shares have been added now.
