People are bragging 8's in the quarter mile right off the dealership floor.

That sentence alone (w/ “showroom floor”) says a lot about the awesome car times we’re living right now. Throw in the Red Eye Hellcat, the ZR1, the 700+HP Porsche 911, the 2019 Mustang and a host of other fire-breathers in various price ranges and countries of origin, and you got yourself a global HP and speed frenzy. Oh, did I mention the Camaro?

I was shocked to see the COPO come with a small motor. I kinda figured they would all be 427's

Depending on the year, there were always 3-4 engine choices to choose from. Multiple engine choices allow flexibility in which class the car is raced competitively. The 427 was always naturally aspirated (I think) and the smaller engines (5.3, etc.) were supercharged. Nothing wrong with a smaller engine. It just depends on which class people race in.

Yeah after I read about them I figured it had something to do with class. The first I had heard of the new COPO's was on Gas Monkey Garage and it was a 427 car so I just assumed (I know, I know) they all were.

Last that I looked there was a naturally aspirated 427 still available. However, the 350 with a blower puts down more power. Both are awesome engines. They've toyed with a number of engine combos since 2012.
