Need help and Advice with Car Toys
Looking to have new Pioneer head unit placed in my 2010 Camaro. I have the Metra Kit Metra 99-3010S which should include most items for install at least I thought so.
Car toys is claiming they need a harness to retain the stereo function which will be around $60-80 then a programming fee of around $45-60 along with a $45 fee to install USB port for easier access in cabin to connect Iphone rather than glove box. I was under the impression the Metra Kit had the harness needed to connect steering controls already does it not?? Is there normally programming that goes into making it work as well? Just wondering why the extra charges from Car Toys. Car Toys wanted $200 for the initial install plus other fees stated above for steering wheel controls and such. In short can anyone tell me all the accessories needed to connect a Pioneer head unit 8100 NEX in my 2010 Camaro. I would like to retain door locks, Steering wheel controls and onstar if possible. ONstar not a crucial. Last-----Is it possible and what is needed to retain the USB port active located in the storage center console area?? Does that go away when using the Metra Kit or is it possible to maintain. I would also like to maintain the USB without having to remove entire center console. Car toys stated they could install Metra kit and radio without removing center console but would have to remove center gauges and shifter. I would rather not remove entire center console due to additional after market wiring installed. |

The steering wheel control harness is separate. I have one in the car right now as I am getting my head unit replaced tomorrow.
Here is what you need for that. http://www.ebay.com/itm/181363549622...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The guys I spoke to said that they relocate the USB to the glove but it seems pretty simple to add a cable that connects to the center console. Not sure about Onstar as I don't use it. The Metra kit will relocate the door locks. Its going to run me about $300 installation to get the Metra kit installed with new head unit and steering control module installation including a rear view camera addition. |

@ $400 you are mostly paying for labor, convenience and piece of mind. Remember they are a retail shop and you probably have a lifetime guarantee. We do this for free for our members when timing allows.
