I'm going to go with a 400 pound difference between base Vette and SS Camaro which should put it around 3,700.. That's me pulling numbers out of my ass like everyone else, but makes sense to me!
Solid points, I agree. I was using the Corvette more as an example of expectation vs. final product. The point being, that even if it doesn't get lighter, which I agree it probably will ever so slightly, the "whole package" of the car will be better, and as many Stingray owners are saying, the car will "feel" much lighter. Which at the end of the day, is the actual desired result.

Add: Although I've only had my 2011 for less than a month, I'm impressed by how it drives and handles as it is.

If the 6th gen Camaro V8 doesn't come under 3700lbs, I'll consider that a failure after how heavy the car is now. My ideal weight would be 3650lbs V8 manual for the 6th gen along with 450hp and 455lbs tq at 32k starting price. The weight trend of these cars just keep going up and up, we can blame the government for that.

You do know a 2014 1SS is $34,500 right? I don't see how you can get a 1SS at a lower weight than the ATS-V ANNNNNd cut $2,500 off the base price 2 model years into the future. Your weight will require premium materials which will raise the price even more, not lower it the equivalent of $4,000 accounting for inflation.

I have a 2015 Malibu 2ltz WITH THE 2.0 turbo and 259HP, and it's curb weight is 3660lbs.

I can't imagine how that Malibu would perform with a 450hp V8 in it.

The 4-cylinder ATS weighs just over 3,400lbs, the TT V6 weighs about 3,600. The LT1 weighs 50lbs less than the TT V6 which leads me to believe the V8 Camaro will be around 3,600lbs as well. Comparing the old CTS and gen 5 SS the CTS V6 weighs more because of all the luxury items and more sound deadening, etc. Even with stronger components in the new SS drivetrain I don't see it getting to 3,700lbs.

These numbers are where I have been speculating(READ: HOPING) the weight would fall in. I think GM learned their lesson about weight with the 5th gen. Then again, the new Z06 took on about a 350lb gain(understandably, the supercharger adds weight). Lightweight has always been the calling card(and cost increasing) of the Vette. Esp the Z. That being said, I hope that the above weights are possible.

Factoring in the weight increase for the C7 vs C6 vette is also tricky. The C7 Vert more or less weighs the same as the coupe version due to the high strengt chassis used in the coupe version not needing much more additional strenght as a convertible. How this will impact the Aloha camaro i dont know. Will they use thecsame approach to this platform as well?

A 3650lbs camaro in LT1 trim would slaughter the opposition out there. Here's to me hoping:-)
My guess is 3750lbs. Which would be impressive

3750 still feels and reads HEAVY to me, but considering that the new 15 Mustang GT is 3700-3750, I suppose it is the 'going rate'. Times have changed. Ford GAINED weight in the new GT, GM is going to LOSE weight in the Camaro. GM is obviouly doing something right!

One member in another thread unintentionally described the situation very well. "If the 6gen camaro is going to be a fat pig, i might as well save 40k dollars and buy a used 5th gen"(as i recall him writing from my memory)

He makes a very valid point im sure GM is aware of.
IF the new camaro is "just" a slight redesign with a slightly more powerful engine, what is the reason for buyers to cough up the dough for a new one?

I think part of the reason why GM has moved the camaro to the Alpha platform was to shed weight. If they dont shed weight, it's almost pointless buying it. At least in my opinion.

Also, the mustang GT comes in at high 3700's low 3800's lbs if i remember correctly. GM only needs to go to 3700 or less to please their following. Should be doable considering thats the weight of an ATS-V with a TTV6..

I have been reading up on the GTs. Ford is CLAIMING 3704-3727. But I havnt seen any independant weights yet. We all know that ford likes to fudge numbers a bit(think late 90s Cobra).

If the Camaro doesn't lose any weight whatsoever, the new exterior/interior is going to have to look DAMN good for me to consider trading up.

I'm expecting a weight loss. I'm expecting a nicer interior. The one thing I'm still skeptical on is the exterior. If it looks good, I'll likely be sold.

Why on earth would you guys still be concerned about not losing weight. Every indication for the last two years has been it will lose weight on the new smaller and lighter chassis. Then we have Mark Reuss stating as a fact it will definitely be lighter. What else do you need at this point? We don't know how much lighter but it will be considerable enough to make a big performance impact paired with the LT1 and new drivetrain.

BMR scaled their own 2015 PP GT in at 3736 w/ 3/4 tank fuel

I don't think BMR would lie.
