Tuning a 2017

I read over in the F/I section that tuning on a 2017 is almost impossible right now, or so it seems.

Could someone explain to me why and how? Just got my 2017 SS 3 weeks ago and it's a bit disheartening to learn that I may not be able to do much, unless someone finds out a way to tune them.

So far I haven't seen any other 2017's other than my own, so I'm not seeing a lot of talk about them. Just really wanting some clarification on whether I'm screwed for a while until tuning is figured out for them, of if this is something that could be permanent.

I just got a 2017 also. From what I've read, they use a newer software that has not been cracked yet. I'm sure in time it will happen. But it sucks to have to wait. The aftermarket for these cars is way slower compared to the Mustang side I'm from. I actually considered trading back to a Mustang from the lack of and cost of upgrades for the camaro.

Coming from a 2010, it's odd. I don't want to wait, but I will if I have to. The 2010 was made mods and tuning so readily available. I don't intend on trading, but I'd like it to be tune-able sooner than later. Guess I'll have to learn patience.

I would keep checking the HP Tuners Forum, here was a post from about a week ago.

There's another mention of it too on another section of that forum. Looks like HPTuners is looking for files or something. If that needs to come from a 2017 and they need files to dig through, I'd gladly let someone copy it from mine to help out.

Also keep in mind that if/ when you do tune, GM will know the PCM had been flashed if you take it for warranty work. A lot of people don't the know this.

I know. My 2010 was tuned when it was still under warranty.

The ECU's since 2012 also track log devices connected to the ODBII port on top of just having a flash counter. Even if you defeat the flash counter, there is still a log file of device connections.

I think HPT is probably a year away from cracking the encryption. At this point, I'm sure they already took a dump of someones car. But if anyone will do it, the community at HPT will do it first.

Good luck to the 2017+ buyers.

Awesome. I was offering my '17 to a tuner around my area, possibly taking it in next Friday so they can look at it. Hopefully it'll be doable sooner than later!
