On the Camaro it's easy....hit the reset button when you have the oil life monitor up on the DIC screen.

You get 2 oil changes and tire rotations per year, 4 in 24 months. Simple as that.

No need to dicker over the OLM percent. Buddy of mine is a service manager and is real good with what the rules are. He tells everybody just that....GM pays for 2 per year, 4 in 24 months. Whenever it floats your boat.

The owner's manual says to change the oil..... when the OLM system says to, or max 1 year, or max 3000 miles if the OLM was accidentally reset.

So in no case would it be 2 yrs, that is BS.

Want it done at 3000 miles?.... ooopsy accidentally reset the OLM.

But really, no need to argue over the OLM percent. The one simple rule is .... you get 4 in 24 months.

My indicator came on 22% at about 3,000 miles since January. Dealer asked what was the %, we usually wait until it's 12% to change. But you can come in.

Once a year minimum. Since your dealer cannot read the owner's manual, time for a new dealer.

This is a great article about how good synthetic oils are now!

Over the last year I only put 2700 miles on mine. But I will change it at least once a year. I checked the oil on the stick before they changed it and it was still golden brown. I guarantee that if you sent that oil off to a lab they would say that it's still good for 4000 more miles.

Mines a 2013, with only 2056 miles, and never had oil changed. Now my dealer (Bill Jacobs) called me to inform me that I am due for a service, (no free oil changes), so I told him I would bring it by at 2500, they said that's fine, but because I'm over one year they would prefer to see me in for a service soon. Go figure.

My dealer told me on my Spark that its 4 free oil changes and tire rotations any time within the 24 Month period. If I need 4 in 12 months I will get 4. And the percentage will not matter. Just when I want to have it done. I will do it every 5,000 miles just because that is when I usually rotate my tires anyway.

Exactly. There is a dealer that knows the rules and details.

There is a labor operation set up for the free maintenance on 2014s. The one criteria it has is.... Maximum 4 in 24 months, just like GM has in writing in the free maintenance advertising.

Anybody getting pissy over the OLM percent is making up their own rules.

The manual states change engine oil and filter when the OLM says Change Oil Soon or 10 months, whichever comes first. Take the car somewhere else.

are you sure? I used to think that years ago but read GM uses an algorithim that takes into account idling time, highway mileage time, etc. Unless something changed, I don't think there are any sensors reading the oil directly.

I heard others say the free maintenance is limited to 4 oil changes.
