Yes, but that's nowhere near as profitable in the short term as selling actual cars. Sales vs. Inventory for repair parts are totally different.

My guess is that the moment the strike ends, whatever isn’t built yet … won’t get built. The strike is only going to mean less Camaros all-around; they will not extend the production window on account of it, and with January being the date when Camaro production ceases, that realistically means the last vehicles going into the start of production is more like October/November.
They will continue the build of the ordered Camaros. The move to EV and getting there faster has absolutely no bearing. Remember that the UAW isn’t just the production lines, it’s everyone. So if there is a strike, it’s not like the trades will just go in and start the change over process. Nobody will be working. Cars will stop in place on. The line and start back up where they left off after the strike.

I work at GM and when we went on strike last time none of the contractors would cross a picket line. The GM Tech Center was having their offices remodeled and the remodeling stopped in their tracks. My plant is having a new roof put on that needs to be done before the end of fall and those guys won't cross a picket line.

Question, if the camaro is built , release and sitting in their shipping lot, and the U.A.W. goes on strike can the car still get shipped or is it sitting their until after the strike is over?

I would venture to guess if the haul drivers are union and a picket line is set up at the factory lot they would honor it,
if the lot was remote away from the factory would the UAW picket that remote location?? if not maybe the built cars would move.

I wouldn't count on anything shipping out of there if there's a strike.

I just checked with my dealer this morning. My CE Camaro shows a delivery date between Sep 16-19. Has anyone had any experience with these ETA dates?

Union transport drivers will not touch the cars, no matter where they are, if there’s a strike. It has nothing to do with picket lines - the Teamsters will honor the UAW strike without question, as they have for decades. On the other hand, GM may choose to use alternate means of delivery, which would not enhance their position during contract negotiations.

Well, Fain just said that any automaker without a contract will have a strike next week. I guess that settles the speculation!

Pardon my naivete, but why can't GM hire a bunch of people away from the competition, have them work during the strike, then have a "nice" mass layoff of UAW members after the strike ends? Is this all prohibited by their contracts?

They'll most likely all be on strike so there is no competition to hire them from. There is also no way a "scab" will cross those picket lines. And then there are multiple contract protections.
I think most people who are not from the Detroit area don't really understand or can't comprehend the scale of the strikes when they happen. There can be some pretty ugly moments. Even the non-union employees that enter the properties, like management or HQ employees get somewhat harassed with blocked entrances. Our cars will be lined up down the streets of the entrances trying to get in. It's a mess

That’s insane, I’m all in stance of getting more money for your work and fair pay, etc. although, harassing innocent people/employees is disgustingly childish.

“Harassing” can come in many forms. I don’t mean to imply violence. Maybe “inconvenience “ or “disruption” are better words at least for tech center employees. You have to remember there a a lot of union employees in the tech center also. So they will be out from picketing.

Back in the day when my dad was on strike at Ford, scabs were met w violence. Especially union employees that didn’t agree w the strike and crossed the line to feed their families.

With all due respect, this behavior isn't unlike how the Italian mob operated... Also, I read in some newspaper, not sure if it's true or not, that the average hourly pay of these UAW members about to strike at GM is $62, and their demands are something like a 50% raise and a 32-hour work week for 40 hours of pay, at which point, again if all this is true, I cannot sympathize with any of it, regardless of how much disdain I have for GM.
