Fogging windshield

I never could get it lower than 78 before without extreme fogging. So far today 70 degrees, fan turned up, with no fogging and it's rained as well. Very humid day.

Anyone in the Washington D.C. area have this issue fixed? When I went in for an oil change at Koons Tysons Chevy (which had to be done twice because the tech used the dealer oil instead of the Dexos 2 oil I supplied) The sales rep acknowledged the fogging as a normal occurrence on most of the Camaros and just told me to turn the air up, which I was already doing as well as shoving a rag on my dash. Needless to say I'm looking for another dealer that acknowledges this as an issue and has fixed other Camaro's.

That's fixed alright. Good reporting.

Some weren't so lucky. They put it all back together, new windshield and all, and the defrost vents were leaking almost as bad as before repair.

Anyone having this done should communicate to service to check for leaking air after repair, but BEFORE windshield reinstalled.

If it's still leaking, they need to leave the windshield out and continue diagnosis and repair until very little air leaks out the defroster.

Check the repair when picking the vehicle up from service. Simply feel for the air with your hand.

I'll add - check before you drop it off and after the repair. I checked after and it felt minimal, but there was no improvement in condensation. Obviously it was leaking much prior to the fix, but I didn't think to check it before dropping it off.

It definitely did, except it didn't reach all the way across the vent, it was only a 12" rag. So there would still be a small bit of condensation on either end, wasn't really that bad. It would also slide off whenever I would go around a turn with any enthusiasm, so it would frequently slide around.

I started thinking about using a piece of Kydex cut to the outline and setting it up there until I noticed some scrap pieces of rubber drawer liner laying around one of our shops here at work. Figured that would conform to the contours better so I picked up a piece of that. Made a paper outline and the scrap piece I had was just big enough to make two of them. This is what it came out like.

Here's a vid I took after I got to work this AM. I added a small piece of gaffer tape to it to make it easier to grab.

https://youtu.be/0IgCMYCtG6o

I've had it on there for the past two days and have seen ZERO condensation build up so far. Yes, I know it's not a proper fix but I'm not exactly ready for a tech (even the one I trust completely) to have my windshield R&R'd.

This will be my fix! Could you link the black drawer rubber part you used & how did you cut it so perfectly shaped??

The rubber mat came from some scrap pieces in our techs workshop. Originally came from a big 4' wide roll of it, it has some heavy ribbing (maybe 1/8") on the side seen in the pic and the backside is somewhat smooth, but has a grainy texture to it. Harbor Freight sells some drawer lining material that I have on my own benchtop in the house that I think would work just as well. As a matter of fact another member just asked me if I could cut one out for him so I'll probably be buying more of it this week. It comes in handy for an easily rolled surface to work from for a number of projects, like gun cleaning?
Link to Harbor frieght drawer liner: https://www.harborfreight.com/solid-...ner-65565.html

As for how I cut out the shape, I just took a couple sheets of printer paper and taped them together (it's about 14-15" wide) and layed it up on the dash flush with the base of the wind shield. Held it in place with one hand and pressed down on the paper around the perimeter edge to make an impression on the paper. Took it out and cut around the impression and that's the shape I got. I did put it back up there to make sure it was what I wanted before I transferred the shape to the rubber mat.

I tried to just trace the outside outline of the pattern onto the smoother side of the mat before I cut it but the permanent marker I used was too dark, black marker on a black mat doesn't show up so well. So I put some blue painters tape on the mat and then traced over that. Works much better when you can see the line you're trying to cut.

All of it took about 15-20 minutes, really pretty easy to do. My wife was wondering WTH I was doing the whole time, she hadn't been in the car when the condensation problem was really bad.

I set my vent settings to cabin & footwell all the time and I do not have this problem other than a few days when it's extremely hot and humid.
Even those times I have a very slight condensation towards the bottom of the windshield. Nothing that could be considered an issue.

Why is it that some owners have a more severe fogging than others?

I have tinted(very light) windshield btw, if that makes any difference.

My thoughts on why different....

Different regions so different humidity levels. Different climate control settings. Some like it colder than others. And the sad fact, anything mass produced will have tolerance variances making them all the same yet not.

If it helps people I don't care who copies that. I got the idea from someone else who used some material from Lowe's. I just happened to read the post they made, and looked at a black mouse pad I had laying on my desk. Figured Amazon or eBay would have something under "oversize black mousepad".

I literally was in the market for one for my new PC! I'll just order 2 instead of 1.
