Is this a new z/28?...if so 6300 street miles...awesome!

Did you drive it fast, high revs, strong braking last night before you parked it?

Looks like the throw out barring may be sticking to the input shaft collar. Let use know what the dealer finds out. Driving let it slip back away from the pressure plate. The clutch should never stick like that, may be that all the trans input shaft collar front barring retainer may be too big in diameter.

I would like to know what happens when you try and pull the peddle up by hand? Does it come up and go back down? If it does not come up easy. It is a classic case of throw out barring is sticking. This may be a issue with all our Z28s. The clutch does not have the return pressure the ZL1 does, so it's easy for the throw out barring to stick, or a bad slave master.

I may pull my trans myself to see what may be the issue. I do not have the issue yet, but I may check it out.

A temp fix sometimes is side step the clutch.

One other question? Is the clutch engaged or not when you push the peddle to the floor? If it is still engaged, then it's the master slave issue.

Well I would think it has to be engaging or I couldn't have gotten it to second...of course dealer did nothing since there is no bulletin and they couldn't replicate...I will try to pull up by hand next time.
To me its like the clutch has no feel to it now

Thanks for asking. I was wondering about that.

Summary of clutch issue:

Put in srf and bled brakes but not clutch never thought to...maybe initial problem.

Tacked the car 1 day no issues.
Tracked the car a 2nd day a few weeks later no issues.
First run the next morning on 3rd track day clutch pedal was 1/3 down but worked but also grinded many times looking for 3rd under heavy braking....only double clutch worked. This was gone for remainder of track day.

Then the 1/3 pedal began to be more frequent on the street and I experienced the pedal move down on its own to the 1/3 down position...freaked me out and I reported here. Full travel then came back.

Now I learned that I can reach down and pull it up by hand and it is easy no resistance....then pump it a bit back to normal.

Ran about 150 miles and coming home at night ran up to 120 and love standing on the brakes in to the exit. Within 1 min total failure...pedal to the floor for the first time ever...no pumping ability at all no travel dead to the floor...stuck in first but normal power clutch is not engaged while pedal is down....check engine code and limped home a mile...lucky.

Next day I simply pulled the pedal back up again no resistance...pumped it and the full travel came back but it would not start and gave warning about the clutch not being in ....took many tries but one started....drove it over to dealer. Clutch pedal was flaky but clutch worked.

Today finally talked to rep. He said code was generic and did not tell them anything except it was a clutch problem. They said they bled the system and I gave them srf to add in so everything is srf. They said they needed to road test it and will call tomorrow. I'm out of town.

Skylane...when pedal pulled back up it stayed in its correct up position....detent and easy no resistance at all.

When it failed and went flat to the floor it was not engaged and car had normal in gear power.

Remember prior to the full failure, that twice or maybe more the pedal has moved down 1/3 on its own always after a hard run...where is that hydraulic pressure going or coming from when I'm not doing anything?

One last point...even when it went in to this 1/3 down mode it shifted and ran fine and would generally come back up...only while attempting downshift rev matching on track did it reject the shift and grind...and when it came back up it was always functional and perfect again.

As for the haters.... I'm with zfat...I adore this car. I get so much crazy fun out of it that's why I'm always driving it. Besides I had many way more serious issues with vipers like breaking 4 of the welds on the steering rack and learning about it in the essses at the glen. We will get through it...thanks for everyone's help.

I will say that the viper team was very responsive when they learned of issues on or off tracks...maybe with any luck all this is just air from boiling the factory fluid in the clutch.
