Good one! I love it.

A frequently used yet non-existent word.

IR = without. REGARDLESS = without regard for.

A double negative = neither a positive nor a negative.

Therefore, incorrect grammar.

The correct word to use would be IRRESPECTIVE.

Words of the Day:

Irregardless ≠ Irrespective.

If you consider "busting" and correcting EVERY single thing like that in EVERY post in EVERY thread maybe you'll better understand my "pissin' in the wind" comment. Do you really think that all of these people will suddenly acquire the determination to change their ways after all their lives and become spelling and grammar experts just because YOU called them out? "Well I've always had poor grammar, but PalmerGA called me out so I've got to study up." Ever heard the saying "Don't sweat the small stuff?
I don't sweat anything. And I don't search through posts hoping to find errors - quite the contrary. When I see a grammatical or spelling error which is obviously due to ignorance or laziness, I often (but not always) point it out to them. They can take it or leave it. If it helps them recognize (and correct) the error in their language usage - great. If not - well, I tried.

Or when you misspell a word and autocorrect for some reason saves it. For a while there everytime I typed Camaro my phone would auto correct to Canaro. And just then when I typed canaro it auto guessed it for me. It did it again!

I feel it is worth the effort.
What determines whether or not a word is proper speech for you? Dictionaries are just edited by groups of people. Do they tell you how to speak? Language is always changing. Today's proper language was the bastardizing slang of yesterday. Considering that we are speaking English v4.0(old, middle, early modern, and contemporary) I would think it very hard to claim that a concrete perfectly proper language exists and sustains itself throughout time. Consider also the impressions that our little western Germanic language has had left on it over the centuries (Gaelic, Viking, French, Romance). English is an amalgamous linguistic goo-ball. You can view the dictionary as a time stamp on what was proper at that moment, but guess what's coming out the year after its publication? An updated version of the same book... With new words.
