I have some marathon trips I'd like to make in it this summer.
My ZL1 was built on April 10th 2017 so mine is in that range too. So far no failure at over 22,000 miles now but keeping fingers crossed that it stays together. I do let the oil warm up though after an overnight cold start before pulling off and don’t romp on it until the engine warms up.

I would assume this is probably the most one can do to be preventative.

I have 3 years remaining of bumper to bumper coverage so I really don’t sweat it. After that is up I’ll either extend the warranty or modify.

Was this issue addressed after the 19 MY? I'm looking at 22s now but this is worrisome

There's no "official" answer, but if you look at the poll results and also consider that there is a new part number for the pump, chances are this was addressed to the necessary extent. Besides, you'll have a 5y/60k powertrain warranty on a new 2022, so if it were me looking for a Camaro now, I wouldn't worry too much about this.

Yes, but major warranty problems are a hassle when the car is modified.

True, if you're planning serious mods, the stakes are higher. Then again, if the engine comes apart, you might as well add a Katech oil pump for extra safety and you won't need to worry about this failure point.

Im not thinking about major modifications - but e85 and associated needed parts & tune would be on the list with basic intake and exhaust. I would think that would be more than enough to give a Chevy dealer pause about fixing the oil pump. I know you have to pay to play...what does the oil pump replacement cost if one was to just do it on their own like with the Katech you mentioned?

You need to check Katech's site for current cost/availability. Seems like mine was around $500 last year when I bought it

I had it done at the dealer, and the labor was $3,200, plus the $500 cost of the pump.

A decent dealership won't bat an eye over an intake and exhaust, but E85 and especially a tune will make it very difficult to get an engine replacement after an oil pump failure, in the unlikely case it should happen on a 2019+ car. Without a tune, however, you won't really see more power from mods and E85 won't even be possible.

That's pretty steep even though somewhat understandable. I'd only do this if upgrading engine internals was also on the table.

Everyone says that, but I have the car serviced at the dealer. One senior technician at the dealership exclusively works on my car, and he is incredibly meticulous and expert, so I want the car to remain stock and serviceable with him. I have a 7 year warranty through GM. You get the picture. Though I did install a catch can, ported throttle body, and the dealer installed the Borla cat-back.

Anyway, they took 3 weeks, with the tech taking his time, having parts shipped, etc. The pump replacement is perfect, no leaks.

I'm really happy to have done this, It fixed the one weak link in this otherwise incredible engine. I won't have to worry about the car shitting itself 800 miles from home.

With this oil pump replacement, I'm officially done with upgrades to my car. I'm just going to drive it on weekends and special road trips. It's a lifetime keeper.
