Safety wise, if you had to accelerate for quick lane change for a or something similar... you may not remember you are in Neutral.

Sorry flooring it in 6th gear is as useless as being in neutral. I knew someone was gonna come in with the safety bs. I thought he might of meant mechanical wise it's not good

Homeless - you should know by now that I'm about the last person to harp on safety issues. But this is something you do to give yourself more control over the car rather than less. That's a good thing. Norm

excellent post norm.
For new automatic owner's an excerpt you may have overlooked in your first perusal of owner's manual Powertrain Braking (V8 and V6 Engines) When driving on steep descents in D (Drive) or M(Manual Mode) where frequent braking is required, the transmission will shift down a gear to help hold vehicle speed and reduce brake wear. If the driver continues to press the brake, the transmission will downshift until 3 (Third) gear is reached. If the brake is released for some time, the transmission will upshift a gear. If the road levels out and the accelerator pedal is pressed, the transmission will upshift until the appropriate gear is reached. |

Yea going down a hill at 60 I would be in 6th but I just put it in neatral. Because then at the bottom of the hill is another hill so I just cruise in neatral untill the car slows down midway up the next hill then put it in gear. These are long hills
