The original comment doesn't make much sense because a new SS is quite a bit cheaper than a new base 'vette(I'm not going to compare new to used here....). Although for a ZL1, I would see their point - I love these cars, but I'm not going to pay $60k for a pony car when you could easily step up to a bonafide sports car('vette GS) and still have some money left over. Ultimately my opinion, obviously.

Point being id rather have a 2011-2012 SS with low mileage than a 40k corvette thats probably a lot older with a lot more mileage. Either way If you have the cash for a vette why not get a newer one

$40k gets you damn close to a *brand new* 'vette. My point is that dollar for dollar, the 'vette is better performer and it's what I'd rather have. I just don't quite understand the appeal of $60k pony cars.

I could have bought a pretty loaded Corvette for what I paid for my car just about. But,...the Corvette does nothing for me in the style department. Granted they can corner and handle well and built with performance in mind, but just not my style.
And,.......I have more ponies/torque than a stock Corvette with a warranty.

Screw a base 40k corvette. If I'm buying a corvette z06 ftw. That's a big IF though lol

Was this new or used? If new, that's unreal.

I love this thread, I literally JUST signed the papers for a 2010 2SS w 6500 miles GM certified w/ and extended warranty for just under 28K. I had budgeted 40k to buy my next toy. I am completely open to any option and loyal to no manufacturer. I was consistently finding SL65 AMG Merc's, 03-05 Vipers, an 07 Z06, and Boss 302's all with low miles. All of these cars bone stock can run down F430's and R8's given the right track and are GREAT cars in there own respect. HOWEVER after having run a stock Camaro 1SS around the Yas Marina (north) Circuit in Abu Dhabi i was sold, this car has so much potential and attitude. I plan on spending the budgeted amount on the car and munching some Italian tail pipe at VIR when i get back home.

Sure you can get a Vet LT1 for the same price as a convertible SS. The vet is by no means a better overall car than a Camaro. There are some things better about the Vet (like head room). There are some things better about the Camaro (it is easier to drive fast). They are both good rides.

When my Camaro is paid off I will be getting a Vette, probably some form of C6 ZO6 or C5 ZO6, I just like them.

My reply " and your point is?". Next would be telling him a Vette would be twenty grand more. I could have bought a Vette for a few grand more than mine but I wanted a daily driver and need the extra room.

We have both, this is my third vette and far from stock but the last stock coupe felt very similar in a straight line up until about 100.

The camaro is hers and she plans to start doing lapping days with me but having driven hers I love the camaro too. My honest feedback is this:

Pros for the vette:
  • Vette feels MUCH better in the corners
  • Much better pull over 100mph.
  • Interior is also a little higher quality but let's face it, we don't buy American cars for their interior.

Cons for the vette:
  • Any sort of bump or low ground clearance SUCKS.
  • 2 seats and the
  • ride in general on longer drives isn't as comfortable as the camaro.

Pros for the Camaro:
  • Holy balls do the brakes kick butt! I think I could brake far later on a lapping day in her car. Granted my vette has stock brakes, not brembos like hers.
  • 4 seats
  • more comfortable ride
  • The RS package looks like it's low but it has plenty of ground clearance, this is AWESOME.

Cons for the Camaro:
  • After 100mph the car feels significantly slower than the vette
  • Body roll in the corners, the one thing I want to upgrade. I imagine sway bars and springs will fix this.
  • Interior looks great but feels cheap, even the door handles (ours has every option too). Typical for an American car though and makes me appreciate what I've always referred to as the cheap vette interior a little more.
