Camaro’s haven’t been readily available in 2020 as they were at this point last year. Local dealers had basically none. Practically none had 2019’s even. So, if a car model isn’t on the dealers lot, in most cases you aren’t selling it. The stock dealers had seemed like they sold pretty well in Q2 overall. That’s also probably why discounts have been bad versus previous years was GM dealers didn’t have the inventory on dealers lots to have a need for a big discount. I just looked and even this month discount is $2000 on 2019 & $1500 on 2020. Not exciting by any means.

Tesla sold 192,000 units I believe, if memory serves, last year in the US and 367,000 total sales. Camaro maybe sold 192,000 over the last 4 years combined. Yes, Tesla is 1.1% Market Share......right now but their stock is trading at 40 times GM and their market cap is ridiculous.

It's sorta like Congress. Everybody thinks Congress sucks and gives it zero stars. But most people like their congressperson. Most people don't like dealerships in general, but they like the dealer they bought from.
Ideally, I could test drive a model I am interested in at a nearby store then order the exact car I want. That car would be priced transparently, built to my spec and delivered to the local store in a timely fashion (some weeks, not months). The local store would handle any trade-in and deliver my new vehicle. Financing/leasing would all be done online and arranged as part of the order. The local store would handle any warranty or service needs. None of that above requires a direct sales model. If it is a non-franchise, factory owned store with factory paid employees, do I expect the price of the car to be dramatically less? Would service be dramatically better? I'm not so sure, in fact, you could make an argument that it would be worse in that the profit incentive is removed for the store to provide excellent service. My point is that there are lot of things in the traditional franchise dealer model that I think we all value. I agree that the laws should not unduly restrict innovation and competition though - this is an area where Tesla is making improvements in the process. |

Yep it depends on your area. If I'm out driving around I'm lucky if I see 1 in any given day. People around here drive large SUV's and PickUps. They are everywhere including one in my driveway. Honestly don't even know one area around here you can pull in and charge an EV. Or take your Tesla in if anything were wrong with it.

the idea that the camaro demo is smaller than tesla's is not about your area.
We have global sales numbers for both. Tesla is basically operating at their max capacity and selling everything they make and those numbers are outstripping the camaro (which we know is not limited by capacity at all). Even if you limit the model of tesla you're looking at to the model 3...it's still wiping the floor in units delivered compared to the camaro. That's why you can undeniably say that the camaro is more niche now than electric cars. And why you can see pony cars in general becoming more niche than electric if they're not already in general. |

I mean, we are comparing a family car with a sports car. The former is gonna have a bigger demographic, derp. Anyway, when I was on west coast of Canada I see Tesla a lot. Here in Fort Mac, not so much. Good luck getting them going in -30C of winter, assuming the door handles don't freeze up on you, LOLOL. Sent from toaster or something

Ironically, I bought my '16 2SS 6MT new in '16, paid it off in '19, and sold it a few months ago to buy a Model 3 Performance. 0-60 in 3 flat, no gas or oil, it sucks sunshine (from my solar panels) and spits rainbows.
Guess what I've been obsessing over for the last month? Finding a car as close as possible to my Camaro. I'm in SoCal, and there are thousands of Tesla on the road everyday, and very few Camaros. Every time I see one I sigh and want it. When it comes to cars, never listen to your wife (grrr). |

Tired of these sales posts...
Sooo...anybody else think the fact that GM didnt build ANY cars for over 3 months last year didnt impact the available selection of inventory or sales (I'm kind picky when spending $55k or knowing if the company will be around in 6 months to stand behind their warranty)? Which, by the way, goes hand in hand with no incentives during the time that both 2019 left overs and 2020 Model years were on the lots? How about the fact that you could get $3500 incentive if you turned (towed) in a 1986 Mustang but if you were a loyal GM customer that had bought a 5th 2SS convertible you got shit? Hmmm...sounds self imposed to me. I think its time to change up management and marketing, not designs! Yes, I'm a little bitter at the buying experience this time. In my younger years I wouldn't have blinked an eye at buying a different brand car and the figures in the original post would support many people did. Now only time will tell, if GM can get any of those customers back...

I have also seen numerous Teslas on the streets and highways of Marin County, but make no mistake, Marin County does not represent mainstream America. I do, however, agree that EVs represent the future.
