Not trying to be that guy, but I doubt that we will have a 6th generation Z28 due to what GM is choosing to do with its budgets.
But, let's get theoretical. If something like that were to happen, it would be as fast as, if not faster than the GT500. Note, that the car will be most likely slower than 3.1 seconds, as the spoiler will affect drag, and the car will most likely be a bit heavier than 3425 pounds. |

Haven't read the whole thread so I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I wonder if the FPC engine that's going in to the C8Z might be going in to the Z28? Especially if they do the NA FPC (I actually believe the C8Z is getting a TT FPC).

It was reliably reported that the Z/28 had been killed. The fact that Al O is now on to electric vehicles would lead me to believe that GM will not spend the $$$$$$$ to engineer any of these suggested vehicles. Testing, certification and a host of other considerations would indicate that there is not going to be a Z/28 and a 7th Gen may be on life support with a priest being summoned for last rights.

And that's the thing, track-oriented models are expensive because all the things exclusive to it, which means less economy of scale and higher cost. There is a reason M4 GTS is horrendously expensive. If GM does something like that, it wouldn't be that different. It's too expensive for your typical track junkies(which will just buy the ZLE that's likely cheaper than a theoretical Z/28), and it's too hardcore to attract people who can usually afford something like this.

June 2020 GM released a new 427 crate engine. I think they would put this in the new z28

Why do I smell a dual clutch camaro? I could also see a manual, but I definitely feel like it will have a dual clutch camaro as an option.
We can't go one generation without one Z28.

Scary that you'd say that, this new LS7 is only 80 down from our current ZL1.

Crate engines are technically competive use only.

The engine has to meet the requirements of the car, generally. So, I can't stick one of these LS427/570 crate motors in my '16 SS and call it a day. It would technically no longer be legal to drive on public roads. But some crate engines DO meet today's standards, like the LS3, LT1, LT4, LT5, etc., are crate engines and can be used in modern vehicles and maintain legal road status. And boats are a whole different story in terms of legality. Has anyone seen Mike Finnegan's big block twin turbo boat? As the first comment on the video states: "0 to 113 in 4 seconds ON THE WATER! Finnegan: "Could be faster" Cant wait for more uploads!" |

Well considering Ford just killed the 350GT with it's wonderful engine it's doubtful GM puts a rumored Corvette engine in the Camaro for a year or two. Big development work.
Also reducing the weight significantly as someone suggested would be HUGELY expensive. The car OP describes is basically a $100,000 Camaro. So if you are spending $100,000 on a car would you want a Camaro Z/28 or a C8 that will still blow it off the road with the same engine? There just doesn't seem like a good business case for a Gen6 Z/28. Biggest hope I think is an (arguably) 7th gen car with GM's first true performance EV propulsion system. Whether you call it a Camaro is another issue, but that's my hope and prediction for 23 or 24.

GM undercut the Camaro to keep the Corvette on top. The management can’t support two performance Chevys.
