I think I did mine around 500. Then just once a year every spring. Only put about 2k/yr on her so one oil change is sufficient.

As best as I can tell from reading the manuals for my 2022 1SS 1LE and 2024 LT1, there is no recommended 500-mile oil change for anything other than a 1LE being as a track car. 1500 miles for the LT1s and 1LEs used as street cars. The 500-mile oil change was part of the track prep (as others have pointed out).

Planning on doing mine this spring once it is out of winter storage (along with the diff fluid) and plan to repeat that every year. I won't ever put enough miles on to warrant multiple changes per year so it will be fresh oil each spring. Plus, it is an excuse to spend time on the car lol.
Bought mine new in October and am at 4xx miles. Most of that is the ride home from the out of state dealer. If I put that much on between April and November each year I'd be surprised (but I wouldn't complain either). |

This pretty much sums it up if you plan on keeping your car for long-term

I did the early initial oil change and diff fluid. I daily mine and do about 20k mi. a year. So I use the oil life monitor since it monitors all aspects of the vehicle, driving habits, environment, etc. It has fallen between 4500-6000 miles depending on the amount of highway driving (which I do a lot of).
Now that I have a new engine, I'll change it at 500 mi. and send to Blackstone Labs. All future oil changes will be sent to Blackstone as well. I want to see trends over time. I'm just lucky we caught my original engine's bad casting when we did, by chance. I didn't do oil analysis originally and I suspect I would have seen coolant in the oil if I had. I do have oil from my second change that I'm going to send off, out of curiosity.

Better safe than sorry. If I had bought my car new I would have done the 500mi and 1,500mi oil changes and followed the recommendations to avoid these for the first 500mi: full-throttle starts and abrupt stops and exceeding 4k RPMs and constant speeds and cruise control. Avoiding hard stops during the first 200mi on new brake pads is not necessary in my experience. Maybe it increases their life somewhat? I have put several new sets of stock pads on the car at the track (usually just fronts or rears but sometimes all 4 corners at once) and immediately used them on track. They smell the first session but they still stop the car fine when brand new. Maybe slightly less braking g forces during the first session. Last edited by cdrptrks; 04-02-2024 at 03:48 PM. |
