a dealer gets a callback with a buyrate on it - depending on state and bank they can legally mark that up 2-2 1/2% and pass on to the consumer (ex: buyrate could be 2% and sell deal to customer at 4- 4 1/2%). Deals aren’t structured soley off score either. One persons 800 fico may not be as good as another’s 770 with prev high loan balances, auto history etc. Also loan to value, debt to income, payment to income etc all affect the call back (loan terms). And as mentioned yes a dealer can determine for you to use there financing as they get a flat etc better with preferred lenders etc. Good luck with your search - financing can be tough when don’t know the ins and outs but for the “most” part big dealers aren’t going to try to screw you, but they are in it to make money.

So the dealer must've wanted to make a bit of change off of my loan amount since they were selling at MSRP. He even mentioned, after I kept pressing for first responder and student discounts, "we are selling most vehicles on our lot at $3000 over MSRP, easy!" I told him I'm aware of the current climate, and I appreciate them for not putting a Market adjustment on this vehicle, as 2 of the 4 dealers across the nation had.

So, bottom line deal, MSRP minus $750, 4.14 APR open to refi after 6 mos. Oh yeah, I left the 100k mile warranty on there as well, so that's another $2900 they got me for. But overall, I believe it is a good value for the car that I am looking at. They tell me it's in Lansing awaiting delivery.

Just had a similar experience today. Since my order still hasn't been picked up by GM, I've started looking around at other options. Found a Rapid Blue 2SS 1LE that just arrived at another dealership that hadn't been claimed by anyone. Options weren't exactly what I wanted, but overall it would work.

Dealership was selling at MSRP, so I was all set to drive there today and pick up the vehicle.

First red flag was that they valued my trade-in at over $6000 under what KBB (or any other source I could find) was offering, and they wouldn't budge on that. When I offered to take the trade off the table and just buy the car outright, they said I had to finance through them and couldn't pay cash. Since GM is offering 0% financing right now, I figured I'd could just do that for a few months and then pay off the loan in full, but this dealership said they weren't honoring the GM financing, and had to finance through whatever company they were using if I wanted to buy the car without including the trade.

This just set off all sorts of alarm bells in my head, so I said no-thanks, and passed on the deal. I also called GM customer service and filed a complaint about this whole experience, not that I think it will do any good. Between the whole "no allocations" at my local/preferred dealer, and then a bad experience with this other dealership, I'm just about ready to give up on GM and the Camaro. I'm sure the car is fantastic, but the whole experience of trying to purchase one is ridiculous. I've never had this much trouble trying to buy a car.

Geenwood's Hubbard Chevrolet in Hubbard, OH.

They do have the car available last I spoke to them, but I'm just not willing to deal with their conditions. If you are though, and you're looking for one, it is an option.

I was just curious. I have an SS 1LE coming next week. I got it at MSRP, but they have not said anything about financing. I understand there are some cash offers, and that one of them may be tied to the 0% offer. If that is the case then I will finance a small amount.

That's awesome man; glad to hear your car will be arriving shortly. I was really hoping to put together a deal on this today, but it was a pretty terrible experience with the dealership, so I'm glad to have walked away.

I can't believe dealers are still being this slimy. After we worked out the price on my car, my salesman asked me if I wanted to finance at my own bank or through GM. The GM 72 month rate was only 1.9% so I went with them.

Talked to dealer today that had a 2k discount off msrp on their site but the only way to get that price was to pay a destination charge separate from the one already apart of the of vehicle price on the window sticker. I was told the only way that charge goes away is if I paid msrp.

All of that was after I stopped messaging them once already when they told me there was a 2k markup. I flat out said it doesn't make sense to discount the price then add a "market adjustment."
I got an email next day saying they could work with price.

Told them to pound sand. I'd sooner work with someone who wouldn't lower the price below msrp then act like they are and charge some slimey fake fee.

As I mentioned, until now I've had good luck working with dealers. Most of my cars have been bought at my local dealer, a combined Chevrolet/Subaru dealership, and we've always had a great experience buying from them. I'm sure a lot of it was that I worked at the dealership from 2004 - 2015, so I know a lot of the people working there, but they have always been great to work with, and I've been very happy with all the deals I've gotten. This is the dealership I've been trying to order a Camaro from, but (probably because it's a smaller dealership), they haven't gotten any allocations, at least since I ordered the car last year.

However, I've also had good luck when I bought my MX-5 back in 2020, and when we bought the Ridgeline last year. Both of those went off without a hitch, and in fact earlier today I made a deal with that same Mazda dealership to just buy the MX-5 back from me, and they are giving me the $30,000 price I was seeing online (actually, I double checked against a number of the online sites that will buy your car from you, and the dealership was still slightly higher than all of them). Sure, I won't have a weekend, fun car now, but I also won't have to worry about dealing with a trade-in any more, and I can still sell it for a good price while the market is still there.

As I said when I called GM about this, while they can't directly control what their dealerships do, these kinds of tactics reflect poorly on them as a whole, and combined with the whole limited-allocation thing makes me unsure if I even want to buy a car from them. In fact, I already have a deposit down for an allocation on a new Toyota GR86, and while I'd rather have a Camaro (would like to experience a V8 before they become extinct), the GR86 was my second choice and I'm planning on buying from whichever manufacturer can get me a car first.
