The American Car bias that is dominant here gets tiresome after awhile. Glad to see people looking at other cars that look great and run well too. I really like the new Kia.

I had not heard about this car until I saw the commercial for it. It is a nice looking car and it is something worth considering, but definitely not something worth trading the Camaro for.

The wife drives a BMW, but not before we bought 15 domestic cars before it. I even drove domestics when I knew they weren't all they could be. I like my neighbors employed as I firmly believe in a chicken in every pot. I too feel for my relatives who live in West Point and Lanett to have to depend on a Kia plant to provide a job. Keeping jobs here and most of all buying things made here keeps us from having to rely on the likes of Kia et al.

By no means was I ever entertaining the thought of trading my Camaro in for a Forte, but this thread (inspired by my wife) was just another way of viewing how a growing company learns from their competition that already leads by example. People still really care about what their cars look like and other manufacturers will take notice of important styling cues and figure out how to make it work with their resources and design a successful car. I guess the verdict is still out on the Forte but with the G6 disappearing, the HHR and Cobalt fading away, the compact sport class of vehicles is very much up for grabs. Sure, the car may look like a Honda Civic Si, but wouldn't it be incredible if Kia could pull off a Honda Civic better than Honda?! I think that would be the upset of the year if you ask me.

I actually like the interior on it. Looks like a sporty daily driver that looks good with good gas mileage.

I won't sidetrack here, I promise. The Kia really doesn't swim in the same waters as the Camaro so I'm not sure how that suggestion came up. If she was making a suggestion trying to save the family a bunch of money or something, I guess I can see that. Kia's are ok little cars- nothing particularly good or bad about them IMHO. I'd prefer the Camaro myself but I certainly wouldn't bust your balls if you felt you needed to switch.
As far as this goes, for 2 of those countries mentioned they can charge high tariffs because the only thing they export in any significant quantity is guns. The US could care less if the consumer has to pay a little more for their IMI or Taurus. If the US raises tariffs on import cars, then our trading partners respond and then it will be even harder to sell our exports. But it's usually not even quid pro quo on cars- instead if we raise tariffs on cars, then the foreign countries respond by raising tariffs on EVERYTHING from potatoes to cars to technology. |
