Have you guys every thought about switching cars? Just to rule out whether or not it's driver mod needed

New to the forum and a proud owner of a new 2017 2SS FIFTY M6. I'm still in the breakin stages. Its funny to see some of you talking about ( street racing ) haha Not that i condone staging up and full on drag racing on the streets, but why buy a car like this and not jump on it? You can't tell me if a someone pulls up and revs at a light you don't pull hard from the light? Not saying every time but come on.. If you don't drive it maybe you should trade it for a Prius. Thanks for the warm welcome.

LOL, because talking about street racing on this forum will get you censored. Also, these cars double the speed limit in my town in an instant and I'm 50 years old with a great job. A huge fine and/or major violation will not look good, so why risk it? Plus insurance rates go up, etc. Take it to the track is my motto, and I do that as often as I can. That's why I bought this car and not a Prius, does that make me less of a man?

after being pulled by three sheriffs cars one morning doing 125 in a 55,my jets are cooled.luckily i did not get the trip to jail, possibly because i took my foot out of it and waited for them to catch up,which gave me time to buckle my seatbelt, and possibly because they didnt zap me with the radar gun.it could have been that they liked the looks and sounds of the 1966 pontiac i was driving then too.

Can't speak on the other cars, but the 392 SRT dodges SHOULD BE a tough race. They will stay 1/2 a fender behind you until 135, where they will pull you in the top end. Chargers at least.

A little shocked it would be that close considering a charger is about 4400 pounds and the HP and TQ difference isn't that great. But the other factor would be your M6 against 8SPD Auto though. So I guess it really would be a close one. Guessing if you had the auto you would pull him though.

I wouldn't give up the M6 though.

With equal tranny it is close but not that close. And with either person in an m6 all bets are off. Its all about driver then.

Ive seen a few at my track. I was consistently about .2 and 2 mph or so quicker than a 2015 challenger a8 with a couple mods similar to mine at the time last fall (basic stuff such as cai etc both untuned, both on tire) both of us with near identical 60 fts as well. It was no cheap win because of someone not hooking/ spinning etc.
Very comparable. But its not a dead heat. The Camaro pulls slowly and steadily through every gear.

Camaro (M6) --- Challenger 392 (A8)
0-30 -- 1.7 sec --- 1.6 sec
0-40 -- 2.4 --- 2.3
0-50 -- 3.1 --- 3.2
0-60 -- 4 --- 4.2
0-70 -- 5 --- 5.4
0-80 -- 6.3 --- 6.6
0-90 -- 7.7 --- 8.1
0-100 -- 9.3 --- 9.9
1/4 -- 12.4@114 --- 12.6@112

1/2 a fender is like a few hundreds of a sec difference, not the couple of tenths that there actually is. And a couple of tenths in the 1/4 is one to two car lengths. You can see on the graph the 392 cars have the advantage down low due to 3.09 in the A8s, not on top end. As for the Charger pulling away at 135mph, again doubt it is stock but the Charger does have better aero than the Challenger at least. And there's no data for either above 110mph.

Either way, a couple of tenths M6 vs traction limited 392s is a drivers race all day. A bad launch or a less than perfect shift, then I can definitely see it being fenders

I make sure I resist the street scene, that's the last thing I need is a massive fine and increased insurance. And any car that can challenge me means that in a 1/4 mile we are both doing 120. I don't need that in our city with our 35-45 MPH zones.
I don't do it either. Too dangerous. Too many chances of an officer being nearby.

I did it once just playing around near a car show against a GTR (I knew I was going to lose, but wth). But we did it in front of an officer, and for some inexplicable reason he didn't go after us. After that, I was done.

Should have kept that 5.0

Take it to the track and see what it can run and mph.
If you run unusually slow times in decent air an good 60 ft, you may have yourself a "turd".

That sucks you're having issues and doesn't sound typical for these cars. The dealer should be fixing them.

I actually had a 16' A8 1SS as well but couldn't get into the the slow paddle shifts and lack of engagement.
I liked the car overal and didn't want to yet give up on the camaro, so I traded for a very low mile 2SS 6M and haven't looked back, it's been best car I've ever owned. Actually somehow pulls harder and feels faster in gear than the A8 once rolling. The auto rev match makes shifting so smooth. Overal more fun, engaging, and exciting than the A8 SS as well as past mustang gt's I've owned.

As far as the stang, I found the s550 to be a disappointment compared to my 2012 gt.

The Pilot is my family car and is nice as well. Very comfortable and quick for what it is. Steer feel and handling surprisingly pretty good for a large vehicle.

Btw, a lot of tracks will rent or loan out helmets for free.

Sorry for all the rambling and good luck to you.
