Doesn’t it seem odd that they happened to be filming it when it fell?

Looks like there is some speculation that the proper lift points were not used.

That appears to be a recording of security camera video, which is always recording.

That could be, but the camera actually moves during the video. Maybe it’s motion activated.

A few years ago the service manager at my dealer was telling about a guy who brought his new C6 in declared he was going to put it on the lift because no one was driving his car. He successfully got it on, then proceeded to open the door and bashed it into the post. Said it was really hard to keep a straight face, lol. Repairs were on the owner for that one.

Not exactly sure why the movement is that way, but judging by the the quality and angle, I am positive its from a security camera that somebody downloaded to their phone and recorded again instead of just sharing the original file. Looks like somebody recoded a security monitor and then sent it to this person, who screen recorded it again, that would explain the movement and visible scan lines on the recording.

So do you build your own cars then? Since this was during the PDI process on a new Z06, not sure how you wouldn't do a dealer in this instance unless you're assembling the car in your garage.

Even in an absolutely perfect world, this customer is going to be waiting more months for his new Z06.

IF - and I mean IF the dealer was able to immediately get another Z06 allocation and IF they had the best of intentions and all the cozy charm you'd hope they'd have in this situation and IF they were able to process another order that very day and IF they were willing to buy the car for the customer.......

That customer is STILL going to be waiting until sometime next year before they get their Z06 now. Unless by the grace of God there's another red one somewhere in America right now equipped exactly how the customer wanted and the dealer is willing - and able - to convince the other dealer to let it go to them.

As for this poor Z06, well, maybe the dealer can salvage the engine. Some interior components. Seats maybe. The engine is probably worth $50,000.

But the rest of the car is junk.

Just as a side note - my Uncle has been a mechanic for 60+ years. He has his own garage in the back of his property that he built, with a built in Bendpack 10,000 lb lift. Every single car he works on, he's in the habit of after positioning the lift points under the car and raising the lift to the point the wheels are just barely maybe an inch off the ground, he will go around the car and "wiggle" all 4 corers and push and pull them to ensure the car is completely stable and secure on the lift before he raises it all the way up.

Gee, I remember the good old days when techs had to be Corvette certified to even touch it, and you learned how to properly lift it.

After my experience with one of my local dealers a couple years ago I'm convinced most of these mechanics shouldn't drive a car much less work on one.
