I had a friend who did the same thing in his '99 LS1 T/A... ran fine for a week and then lost compression on a cylinder. Full rebuild was necessary. Money shift! Had another friend who did the same thing in his older M3. Same deal.

Well, a short duration can cause valves to bend. How do I know? My son over revved our 15 1SS a few years back when he pushed in the clutch and the throttle stuck to the rubber weather mat. He bent all 8 exhaust valves and 2 intake valves in a matter of a split second.

Also, the damage was severe and the car would turn over but not maintain and had massive bucking. We tried once to turn it on, and then stopped once we heard it struggle.

I almost did this in my 17 ZL1 but Active Rev Match saved my butt. I was about to drop into second but heard and saw the the ARM system blipping the throttle so high (but not over revved) I knew it couldn’t be 4th. Luckily my brain quickly sent a message to my foot not to release the clutch and I quickly corrected my mistake before disaster struck.

That said - also agree - if it is running normally you likely came out ok. Take it to your dealer and have them check it out to be sure.

I just drove it this morning, everything seems to be acting normal. Found out the e85 kit was rubbing the brace slightly after which was causing the dash rattle I thought I had. When it spun up I tossed it in neutral so I think that might have helped too

If it didn't immediately start running rough or making abnormal noise, there's a very good chance it's fine. Bent valves are usually the outcome if you mechanically over rev the engine badly enough.
And just as an FYI, most manufacturers aren't going to warranty engine damage caused by a "money shift". If a manual trans car comes in with bent valves, the first thing the manufacturer is going to want to see is max engine speed. I know companies like BMW want vehicle data read out and transmitted prior to authorizing an engine, cylinder head, etc. Pretty sure GM has a similar policy. If it was over revved, it's going to likely be on you. |

Your biggest concern might be warranty coverage later down the road. Chances are you didn't hurt anything as others were saying. However, the dealer should be able to tell an over rev occurred and the total duration. If something goes wrong down the line it's possible they will deny any warranty claims as a result even if it wasn't caused by tou. This is a common theme I've seen in other forums. The only good news here is that it's a chevy not a BMW. If something did go wrong you could get it fixed without going bankrupt.

I honestly do not think 7500 for a brief moment would shatter your engine, anything higher definitely would have been a money shift. If the car is driving fine I'm sure its fine.
