exFAT isn't compatible with the USB ports in a Camaro(and most other cars, really). Grab a third-party tool that will format any drive to FAT32 and you are good to go. I used MiniTool Partition Wizard but there are many other choices. That allowed me to use a 64 GB SD card in the PDR slot in my SS 1LE.

Be aware that what these programs often do, however, is to analyze all of the MP3 media to find a "minimum and then reduce the max output of any single file so that it doesn't exceed that minimum value. In general, that's ok. But, you could end up with an awful lot of very quiet media files if you have just one that has a very low peak volume level. Additionally, the downmixing can sometimes result in quality loss. For everyone that has held onto the notion that a 128Kbps rip size for MP3 is all that you need, this could be the bigger issue as your overall sound quality is going to drop down to a level where it may start sounding "off" to your ears. The likelihood is that having a drive over 32GB in size likely means that you're using for large contents of data and possibly moving that data to other systems (maybe for backup purposes). FAT32 is not optimized for very large amounts of data, and will operate a lot more slowly than what the drive itself is likely capable of with other filesystems. In other words, it's one of those options that we complain about because it's missing, but may well generate far more complaints about if it were present because most users don't truly know how to optimize for various details (like performance). I second the notion of finding a decent freeware formatting tool that will do this for you. Or, just drop down to smaller storage. I have an 8GB SD CARD that I connect via a plug-in USB adapter. Actually, I have a few of them. Each card holds about 5000 songs plus a bunch of playlists. I wish the cars WOULD recognize other filesystems like ExFat because I could create playlists by creating a folder and then linking to specific songs instead of creating a folder and copying the song into that folder. Links are much more efficient of a way to reference a single file on disk from multiple places than maintaining copies... |

That, plus they work marvelously as tape eaters, too. Oh and let's not forget their educational prowess in teaching us patience while (physically) rewinding 40+ minutes' worth of music just to listen to that first song once again.

If you have a windows computer and use Itunes to organize your music I wrote this little Windows app to create a USB Music playlist. It will fill up your USB and/or you can create music playlists you can copy to an Android Phone.
I was going to create an Apple version but there was almost no demand for that shrinking PC market. But if someone wants to pay me to do that.... CarPlaylist a Free Windows App

Yes, the CD is certainly capable, but audio systems are all about the weakest link in the chain. And audio systems in a CAR are pretty much nothing but weak links. :( As far as FLAC goes, I -thought- I had read somewhere that you actually CAN play them simply be renaming them to .mp3? |

As for the systems, the 900W HK 19 speaker system in the RAM is fantastic. Even with MP3. |

There's a high likelihood I'm wrong about it... And, even if it works, it may not genuinely play correctly or as true lossless... Just because the system sees it as a supported container, it could still refuse to play the content if it's not encoded in a manner that the unit understands.

I've worked with technology for a very long time. One thing I have come to appreciate is that most people don't care -how- it works, they just care -that- it works. These sort of situations get a little more tricky because there's more expectation -that- it will work and all of a sudden it requires a little bit of understanding -how- it works. |
