Ford outsells GM in May on the back of pickups and fleet sales

Ford sold a total of 241,126 vehicles in May while GM sold 237,364. Ford topped GM largely because it sold 82,844 vehicles to fleet buyers compared with GM's fleet sales of 45,976 vehicles.

On a retail basis Ford sold 158,282 vehicles and was easily outsold by GM, which sold 191,388. The last time Ford outsold GM was in March 2016, but that also was due to an increase in fleet sales, said GM spokesman Jim Cain.

As you wish

2017 Retail ATP's May 2017 (JDPin)
Camaro: $40,800
Challenger: $37,341
Mustang: $36,515

The Camaro ATP's jumped nearly $2k from April - I'm assuming due to ZL1 deliveries.

2017 Fleet Sale % YTD
Camaro: 6%
Challenger: 33%
Mustang: 34%

April and May represented the largest sales to fleet of the 6th gen Camaro to date, yet was still small. The total % to fleet remains significantly lower than the Challenger/Mustang.

Looks to me like the Camaro is doing better than Challenger and Mustang. For 2017 at least.

Ford and FCA love fleet sales. Not a good long term solution.

Thank you. Very much appreciated.

Applying those percentages to total year to date sales shows...

2017 Retail Sales YTD (May)
Camaro: 29,963

Mustang: 25,359
Challenger: 19,634

Camaro's ATP is $3,459 higher than Challenger and $4,285 than Mustang.

^ I think the main takeaway is GM sold 40 less cars but made almost 3500 more dollars on each car sold than the Mustang did. Which means the Gen 6 is probably more profitable (since a lot of the underpinnings come from the CTS and ATS). Sortra blows the whole notion away the GM is losing its ass on the Gen6 that was on here a few months ago imo.

Would be interesting to see how things shake out with the Mustang re-design(plus new GT500) this year and Camaro re-design(and possible Z28) next year.

Okay guys, yes 2nd strongest month of 2017, but sales were down 896 units from April. April and 1st half of May is Tax season refunds, so look for the numbers to go down for June. How much we don't know, but sales are higher April and May across all car makers, extra cash on hand due to tax refunds.

The fact that they're killing Dodge in Ford and non fleet sales is all that matters it shows that the Camaro is the better car hands down and the others are subpar. Plus the fact that GM is making more money per car I think that the Camaro sitting pretty and I think that GM is more than happy with the healthy sales it's having.

MEDISIN - you are the best. We would love to see this every month

The numbers are startling. So much more profit than Mustang or Challenger.

6% fleet for Camaro - almost NONE!

Notice how the Mustang trolls have quietly disappeared.

If they appear, direct them to these numbers, and tell them to stfu.

5th gen'rs, we love ya, but we're not only making loads more money on the

6th gen, it's a world-class sports car rated better than C7 Corvette.

5th gens always had to apologize for weightyness and zeta chassis.

And if the Camaro 7th gen is a better sports car, I'll buy one of those too.

State of the Art

Its clear most people don't follow the auto industry trends and understand what really going on. Car sales are at all time low right now, this is industry wide and has been happening for over the last 5 months.

Before commenting please educate your self. Or if you such a genius go apply to GM's marketing team.

Man why don't you read some reviews instead of being a troll and then you'll find that universally they're considered the better car of the 3. go back in your cave man
