I suspect GM already planned to use the 10 spoke black rims for the '13 1LE, so that is why they were stamped with the Camaro lettering and not ZL1......but the ZL1 wore them first, a full year before the 1LE was introduced.

What I said was straight from Al O. himself in the interview with the yellow 1LE. I am sure it can be found and will post it if I can find it. As I said, it was during production and testing of the 1LE, which certainly occurred in 2012 if not before, making the wheels available for the 2012 ZL1 release.

Edit: I stand corrected. I may have heard something else and inferred incorrectly.

I hate cleaning my car too. I am not sold the stock 2017 ZL1 rims will be hard to clean. My 2013 polished "bright" ZL1 rims were a total nightmare to clean and the first braking done they showed dust. I dreaded the stock Z06 rims as they looked like a pain to clean. They are in fact easier to clean and the black color hides the dust. The only issue is that the dark rims require that you hand dry them or they water spot. If you drive your car a lot then the darker color rims may be to your liking as they hide brake dust.

If you own a compressor as I do, drying them with a blowgun is quite easy and effective at removing spots and takes little time at all.

MRR Wheels Camaro wheels

Hey guys not sure if its ok to mention this on this thread but i figured is a good option, these are not O.E. but definitely hits the mark.
we actually produce the below wheels mentioned some with a slight difference in design but nothing major. Considering the value that a OE wheel brings to a vehicle when reselling later on in time I think purchasing a quality made rep by a reliable manufacture would be the way to go, you get to keep your OE wheels yet sport the wheel you like on your car. check out the run down.

I actually like both wheels, and if I had to choose one, I would choose the ZL1 wheels.

I'm disappointed that MRR opted to go with a low pressure cast design instead of flow forged for the ZL1 replicas.

That's what caught my eye as well. I don't know if Id trust the cast wheel on the track...... The O.E. have been built forged for a reason!

well I can always say we are the best and how our factory does this and that but the proof is on our history, when a wheel is done correctly it will handle stress. just check out Camaro5 forum, we have hundreds of clients with the M228 wheels in which a large % do track events, we also have the M017 Flow Forged and we introduced the M228 Forged.

also the wheels above where like the tread mentioned, they like the look of the wheel. you can buy a forged wheel anywhere but is only as good as the company behind it.

I just posted those wheels for those wanting a option.

Nothing wrong with Low Pressure Cast. Like anything there are different ways to do it.
A number of big companies use this technology to make Great Wheels that Performance users love and swear by.
I wouldn't shy away from a wheel made in this fashion. The only penalty casting has is a small weight penalty that Forging (and/or Flow form) can over come.
Some L/P Cast wheels are lighter than some Forged offerings.
L/P Cast wheels are strong, structurally sound and can usually absorb a bit more abuse.
Like MRR says, they know what they are doing and have been doing it right for Camaros for some time.

I wish I knew how you guys could tell by looking at the wheels that they are cast not forged.

I like the stock zl1 wheels, but I agree that I would like at least one more option to choose from when ordering that doesn't affect msrp

I want an option! For me the aggressive angles of the 1LE rims simply annihilate the busy, spoke elegance mess of the default ZL1 rims. And for those saying they are sick of black rims and they are a fad I couldn't agree LESS, haha =P

I prefer dark rims. When they first came around I wasn't a big fan, but it changed fast. Now I find it bizarre how rims evolved to have a standard silvery metallic look. I've wondered for some time why it wasn't more a default to color them to match the paint of the car. In terms of color palate and general color design, the silver look clashes with the color of just about all paint aside from silver. You'd need to have vastly more silver'ish accents to help offset the intrusive random nature of the silver rim. I think silver paint/wrap/dip cars looks GREAT with a standard silver/aluminum colored rim because they match, haha. Black rims match with the black tires, add a contrast to to compliment ANY color. Add some black accents on the rest of the vehicle and its fantastic. Unless you are going total blacked out look, which itself is just badass.

Your points are valid in this sense. Chrome or polished wheels, let's call them brights, were more appropriate on older cars. Example in the 50's and 60's cars were heavily adorned with chrome so the wheel color carried over from the bumpers, door handles, mirrors and so forth. The monochromatic look of many modern cars doesn't flow as well with a chrome wheel. Try picturing a set of Cragar SS on an Aventador! Yea, that ain't happening. At that time bright accents complimented the car. In many cases that's no longer a certainty.
