It's also not as safe and much less sophisticated than a 5th gen or 6th gen.

You can't compare weights of old cars to new cars.

Well you can but the list of differences gets pretty substantial.

If you go by current technology and materials available those old Gen 3 and 4 cars without having to meet current emissions and safety standards, not to mention meet current customer expectations were FAT PIGS and should weigh much closer to 3,000 pounds. LOL

OK if this is the 6Gen I'm sold! This is exactly what should be produced a highly evolved design off the 5Gen. Just beautiful!

I think you would be surprised at what a compromised package this car would have. You'd have the rear seat and trunk of a 911. And those doors are pretty much not manufacturable especially if you like to put your windows down.

It's a nice shape but not a real workable design for the real world.

Alpha has a range of size to it. Can be ATS-sized, can be CTS-sized...OR it could be something in between...

Or smaller than an ATS. Or larger than a CTS.

I guarantee y'all that one of these 5 possibilities is right.

Smaller than ATS? No. Bigger than CTS? No. Same size as CTS? Why?

That leaves TWO...

This is a way out there guess, but only reason I could see it being on CTS alpha is maybe that the CTS alpha already has enough of the chassis stiffening/heavier duty components that might be needed to handle the V-8 powertrain???

Interesting theory, and you might be right.

Do we know for certain, though, that the ATS couldn't handle a V8? When you come down to it, how much heavier is, say, an LS3 compared to the LFX V6? 40 or 50 lbs? Not a huge amount of weight.

You've got to allow for more torque/horsepower, not just weight. Also, different tires and wheels.

If the ATS can handle the TTV6, as its getting, it can handle the LT1.

Like ground hog said, not just the weight. The real reason I threw that theory out there is I would assume when they made the Alpha CTS, that they planned on not only Camaro going on it, but also the CTS-Vsport and eventually a new CTS V. I would assume they would know where the car may need to be beefed up and also handle higher power and punishment. I would assume that R&D would trickle down into the Camaro alpha and boom there is the camaro on same wheelbase as CTS.

Annnnnd I could completely wrong and so far off base so someone smarter than me please chime in if I am way off lol

Only reason I would suspect that they might put it on a larger wheelbase is because it will help offset their CAFE. To my understanding, a larger wheelbase helps the car avoid the need to hit certain FE goals.

The ATS (Alpha) can handle a V8 in ATS size.
