6th Generation Camaro Styling?
So where would you guys like GM to go with the styling on the 6th generation Camaro? An updated version of the 2nd generation? An evolution of the current styling based on the 1st generation? A completely blank sheet of paper?
I figure they are probably working on it right now and since we know they listen, we might as well discuss it. Last edited by Apex Motorsports; 06-01-2010 at 09:06 PM. |

I would like them design a new car with a couple of aspects from the first gen.

Retro will die down, the current Mustang was a natural evolution because of how their original designs progressed and they were first to musclecar retro-style. The Challenger has no where to go, there was only one original design and then it died.
The next Mustang and Challenger will just progress into new non-retro models and so should the Camaro. |

If they move off retro it will be 2002 again.

I hope the Camaro maintains a lot of attributes of its current model, including headlights encased in the grille, a V-shaped front end, hunching rear quarters, and a low seating position.

A blend of the 2nd gen and the 3 rd gen would do for starters.

The exterior needs to change very little. Just minor tweaking. They could kill sales if they do something radically "updated" to the exterior and loose the sex appeal. Look athe Porsche 911, its overall shape hasn't changed in 30+ years. Just refinements and tweaks.
The interior can change totally, I am not bonkers with any of it.

You know, ....I had a dream recently, it was of a totally carbon fiber Camaro SS. I wonder how that would play out in real-world.

See, that is an interesting point. I remember hearing that when they designed the 5th generation they set out not to copy the 1st generation but imagine what the 1st generation would have evolved into over the last 40 years had they never radically changed the original formula, exactly what Porsche has done with the 911.

Anyways -- I think they should simply evolve it. Nothing drastic, obviously if it's put on a smaller architecture it'll have to be scaled down and reworked...but if you look at the Corvette, or the Aston Martin DBx...they've all evolved a little bit more every generation over time. Camaro kinda did this...but they hit such a home run with the design, it could be massaged, not replaced. |
