It's all good to see the Camaro being considered for another generation. It's obvious with the success of the 5th gen Camaro that it's here to stay! As the owner of 2 gen's, I look forward to considering another generation in my future! Cheers to all of us, the proud, the Camaro drivers! May we continue the tradition! eB

IMHO, if they are going to turn the SS in to a forced induction 6 cyl....
KILL THE CAMARO NOW! Just make a brand new coupe and put the Camaro to bed after the 5th gen. It's like a really bad sequel to a good movie. You just wish it never happened.

OMG! You people are getting worked up over a Motor Trend article based on something not quoted by GM, takes place 5 years from now, and is just entirely pure speculation probably made up by Motor Trend themselveS just to start controversy and sell more magazines. Motor Trend editors are reading this thread right now laughing, shouting HA IT WORKED!

Wow folks.
I should make up a rumor that the C7 is going to be FWD and powered by an I-4. You would all believe it.

Don't forget, GM may have there hands tied. The government will be telling, and expecting higher mileage from all cars sold in this country by then. That means smaller, lighter cars and engine designs.
I don,t think we should be blaming GM for this. Besides, your over reacting to this article, its 5 years away.

I talked with the head of GM Advanced vehicle design at the dealer when I ordered my Camaro SS 2 weeks ago and he told me about the Alpha (platform) Camaro with turbo 4cyl & High feature V6, So all the rumors are true I guess... I work at a powertrain supplier and I designed a transfercase for the Alpha platform aka Cadillac ATS and I guess 6th gen Camaro, I wonder if they will offer all-wheel drive?

The gist of it is, I can assure you that in the fun-to-drive department, a 335 is FAR, FAR superior to a CTS. As for new CTS-V vs M3, I have no experience with that, and I'd expect that to be a tougher matchup for the Bimmer. I'd love that huge power of the V.

wow..I can't believe how many 5th Gen owners are all gushy about the Camaro..until a rumor of a smaller platform. Then it's all "Zeta is big and stupid" by some of the same said owners.
Geez. What a pointless thread. |

CAFE is an acronym for:
Corporate AVERAGE Fuel Economy The key word is average. Not every a produced will be a four cylinder box with wheels. This is the kind of hsyteria the media generates by making false assumptions based on rumor. Get the facts folks. Yes, times are changing. The Camaro isn't for everyone. Which to me, at least, means not all is lost here. We may get a somehwat more fuel efficient autombile that perfoms just as well or maybe even better. Let's see how this all unfolds.

This isn't even a case of "what if," it's more a case of "not going to happen."
Camaro's been slated for the Alpha platform for some time now. The Alpha platform is also going to be underpinning the Cadillac ATS and the next-gen CTS. Let me remind all of you that the current-gen CTS has a V-series variant that held the title of "World's Fastest V8 Production Car" for some time. I would expect the next-gen CTS-V to follow the same formula.

Plans for vehicles 4+ years away are so open to change and delays that it's very difficult to take anything in this thread seriously. I do think the speculation of no V8 for the next-gen is particularly silly at this point though. The next-gen V8 will be needed for the Corvette and 2010 SS sales have been through the roof. CAFE might push it up in price but it'll be an option. |
