Dreaded "Power Steering" message - Thoughts?

Was driving my 2016 SS (manual six speed) last night and got the "Power Steering Issue, Drive with Care" message. Power steering was completely off and struggled to turn off the road. Turned off the ignition and restarted and all was well. Drove this morning for about 5 miles with no issues.

I know there were some issues with steering racks and gear mechanisms but wondering what those of you who've gotten the same message ended up having to replace and if anyone got one of these messages and didn't have to do anything as it never happened again. In other words anyone just have an electrical gremlin with no issues thereafter or is this telling me there is a serious problem.

My car is bone stock and has 107,000 miles on it.

Was this subject to the recall and was the work done?
My 2017 is under recall for this, but I have not had the unit changed, as I don't want dealer service messing with my car if there is not a problem.

Edit: Maybe doesn't apply to 2016:
