Death rates
I sold my ss convert years ago when i saw a young driver
Roll his f-150 and was killed. Now iam back to driving A vert again and i saw its rated #8 for deaths. My factory Sticker shows 5 stars for roll over if you can believe that. I dont do that much freeway driving anymore. If i did I would not own a vert. https://www.autoblog.com/article/car...afe-dangerous/ |

Did you ever stop to think the rate might have more to do with the type of drivers these cars have than the car itself? You need to watch some YouTube. If you resemble some of them, then I'd say get rid of the Camaro.

Nevertheless, it's hard to believe a 5-star rollover rating for a vert without roll bars, I'm almost sure the NHTSA test was done with a coupe.

The hard top deaths are pretty similar in #, but of course there are more of those sold. My guess is people are getting ejected from the convertibles.
I have no idea what type of stupidity would be involved to roll a convertible Camaro. I’ve made a few 100+ evasive maneuvers in both the Gen 6 convertibles I owned. They were extremely stable. Don’t try that with a hardtop mustang, or even worse, a convertible mustang. |

As far as young drivers killing themselves because they are young and stupid, well that is a self-correcting problem. In that list, several of the cars are rinky-dink clown cars. |

I compared my window sticker to a coupes and they are different. The coupe has frontal data. I believe this crash test data is accurate for the vert.

I would consider death rate data for rollovers in a convertible to be almost meaningless. Cabin intrusion is such a major, uncontrollable factor.

Convertible owners can correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, the Camaro convertible does not have automatically extending roll bars from the factory. If that is the case, you can very easily get crushed and die when you roll over in one, and that 5-star rating simply cannot apply to the vert.

Well, the label specifically says based on "risk of rollover", not "*risk of injury* in a rollover".
The other ones specifically say "risk of injury". So I might conclude that the label, with a 5-star rollover rating, is saying that it is very unlikely TO ROLL OVER, but it is NOT saying that there is a high chance of survival IF it does. In which case, the 5-star rating is actually not surprising, because the convertible is not meaningfully MORE LIKELY to roll over than the coupe.

My guess is smaller vehicles and higher performance vehicles don't fare as well as other vehicles for different reasons. Smaller vehicles tend to offer less protection to the occupants in an accident, especially in a collision with a larger vehicle. Higher performance vehicles tend to be driven at higher speeds which makes them more dangerous in an accident where speed or reckless driving is involved. Look at all the videos of people wrecking their vehicles leaving a Cars and Coffee. I would think convertibles would not fare as well either just due to the fact they don't have a solid top. However, there are not many convertibles out there compared to other vehicles and certainly on a few models have convertibles available compared to all other vehicles on the road.
