2023 ZL1 1LE decision
Current 2010 SS 6S owner, frequent track driver. Ordered 2022 ZL1 1LE, 10S, PDR, back in Dec 2021 and order was punted to 2023 by GM back in June. Original order (with PDR) still not accepted but just found exact model I ordered (except color) 1,200 miles from me and put deposit. Now, my local dealer just called and got an allocation for me with exact order (except no PDR) which I also put a deposit on.
Dilemma is do I buy car 1,200 miles away and ship here with color I didn't want and has PDR or take the easy order 5 miles from my home with new radiant red color I want but has no PDR? I really want that color red, but I track drive. Question is are there any after-market equipment similar to the PDR that I could install that would provide video and performance data? I know people are saying hey, you got 2 with your name on it and I have none, but I waited 10 months for any good news, and this is still a tough decision. Any advice, much appreciated. Thanks, Rob |

Sounds to me like the color is more important to you than PDR so get the car that’s right next door to you. I had to let the PDR go as well to have my order accepted and I have no regrets. As the previous poster mentioned the 720p quality of the PDR is unacceptable in 2022 so you won’t miss it. Only useful feature of it has to be the valet mode, but I never leave the car in anyone’s hands. I’ve had mine serviced at the dealership and I usually watch them like a hawk.
For $3000 you can purchase a real performance recorder which shows true metrics if you’re into shaving seconds off your lap times. Seems to be one of the better ones on the market. https://www.vboxmotorsport.co.uk/ind...e-video-system Good luck! Now the real wait beginnings. |

Hey there! Glad you’ve located your car(s) finally! I’d agree with the others who are saying get the color you want and add an aftermarket track system. BUT - one other thing to consider. If you plan on keeping this car a long time (10+ yrs) and keep it in good condition — then down the road I think that the PDR option might be worth something to a collector (I’m of the opinion that the ZLE might eventually down the line become a valuable car). And having the PDR at that time might make it much more valuable than a car that doesn’t have it. Just a thought to consider. (mine has the PDR, plus is an unusual color (which I really wanted - Rally Green Metallic). I doubt that I’ll ever sell this car, til I can’t drive it or shift gears any longer!!!)

Only times I have bought long distance vehicles, I have always traveled and drove home. No way I’m buying used without getting to look and touch myself.
If its only these 2 options, I say wait for your build without PDR. Or keep looking to see if anything else pops up in options and color you want. I used PDR daily although didn’t track. I love the option and will only buy a ZL1 with the option so my fingers are crossed GM gets PDR supply resolved, possibly ordering next year. |

I haven't used my PDR in over a year.

I had the PDR in my C7 Z06 and I think its ok...but overrated and old tech. My 2023 ZLE that I found/ purchased in transit does not have the PDR, and I gladly took it.

Looking at the comments from people who have PDR on their vehicle, i would move forward with the order with your nearby dealership.

I added PDR on my '22. I think there's guys who do not know the capability of it when used with Cosworth Pi Toolbox. Even the regular Toolbox software is valuable. The poor sound quality can be fixed. And yeah the camera is not the best, but are you trying to make youtube videos or are you trying to improve your driving? The PDR combined with Pi Toolbox is great when you are concerned with the latter. Ifyou don't track then yeah, PDR is not of any value.

Guess I'm on the other side of the fence because if you plan to track it, I wouldn't have this car without PDR.
You can always add nicer systems and have both. Just to convenient not to have. |

Those that were unable to get PDR say it's not worth it, the majority that have it say it is worth it if you track the car. Draw your own conclusion.

Is the PDR so valuable that the OP has to compromise on the color he wants? I think the answer is clear, but it's up to the OP.
