Truly Intermittent driveline vibration
hello folks, at the end of my ropes here.
2012 Camaro v6 M6. 101,000km. Cruising at 60-80kmph, a light rumble will begin, this will be seen in the rearview mirror. If I hold the same speed or go faster, the vibration will become extremely intense (much like wheel hop or an oscillating driveshaft.) It is random and intermittent, in that i can drive it days under similar conditions without experiencing this issue. The vibration will not stop unless I bring the vehicle to a complete stoo, once stopped I can carry on my way for a day or two without isaue. It has been to chevrolete for a 4hr driveline inspection that produced no issues. It has been to a driveline specialist, who suspected the cv axel, replaced it, no fix. When the vibration is at its worst, i cannot see out of the rearview, (up and down vibration). Vibration is felt through the whole car. Intense shaking. I had this issue crop up within a week or two of having my tires and brakes changed aswell as an alignment, naturally one would think to return to the place that last serviced it, but i do not beleive tire or wheel balancing or out of roundness would have anything to do with a truly intermittent vibration. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Dan. |

No noises? If driveline and cv's are eliminated, then I would first go with tires and wheel balance.

Whe nthe vibration is at its worse, it does make a bass like sound similar to rolling only one window down on the highway. could be a second order vibration ? Hey JB, thanks for the prompt reply. Could a wheel/Tire truly cause an intermittent vibration ? Although It has had driveline inspections, I doubt anyone took the time to drop the driveshaft for a thourough inspection (U-joints, carrier bearing). I guess I was just hoping someone else has had this issue in the past. All the best ! |

Might have build up, a warped rotor, or maybe the start of a sticking caliper

I too, suspected the center/support bearing for the driveshaft. Has anyone here experienced this failure ? Could you describe the symptoms ?
