2019 1SS Identical 6.2 auto/manual ?

Hi All,
I’m trying to pick up a deal on a 2019 1SS over the holiday week and stopped by a dealer and he has two almost identical strip down models one auto one manual and the salesman told me that the motors and drivetrain were exactly the same. I just wanted to confirm with everybody here that that was true. I thought there used to be a difference with the manual having no mds or something, But he said no.
Thanks

what is MDS? Oh right AFM...cylinder deactivation?

You are right, the manuals don't have AFM (DOD aka displacement on demand), the components are there, but they are not activated in the manual cars. For those that want to take out the AFM components on a manual (and maybe also an auto), there are DOD delete kits.

Isn't the rear end ratio different from Auto to 6spd?

The motors are the same, both have LT1 same HP output.

oh, yes ratio different:

3.73 (manual)
2.77 (automatic)

Yes thank you I was thinking of the multiple displacement system Or some other acronym that I forgot. LOL. But yes AFM whatever it’s called I was curious if it was on the manual thank you for clearing that up.

Multi-Displacement System (MDS) is the Chrysler/Dodge name. GM called it Displacement On Demand (DoD) for a while before switching to Active Fuel Management (AFM). I think they all work exactly the same way, regardless of the name.

Well if you asked him if any of the cars had "MDS" and he said "no" then technically he was correct

But yea, the real question, it would seem, is whether you want a manual or not.

Well technically the question I asked was are the automatic and manual 6.2 engines the same and the salesman said yes. I followed up by saying I thought the automatic had some and then I guessed at the acronym and he said no they’re identical so is the salesman correct?

In the 5th gen, the automatic had less power because it had the L99 vs the LS3 in the manual - I believe the only difference was the cam shaft timing in each was optimized to operate better with the different transmissions. No such difference in the 6th gen, LT1 regardless of transmission.

The L99 had VVT and a different compression ratio I think, plus all the associated AFM hardware.

Engines are identical but the software/programming for AFM in the manual isn’t activated.

That's a good deal for the automatic. I know a couple of years ago people were picking up 2SS for that price, but I don't think those deals are still around.
